Astro25 series release & revision history (UPDATED 11/20/10)

Post by Mfire39 »

I’ve compiled some information on the Astro25 product line. It’s basically a brief time line of the CPS and corresponding firmware releases over the years through each major revision. I basically just listed the major revisions, and the enhancements that became available with each new release.

This is still a work in progress, and any new or updated info I gather on any revision will be added accordingly.

-Marc

Outstanding. One omission I see is MDC functionality was introduced in 4.00.00

Waiting anxiously on one for the mobiles and the Quantar repeaters (I have all Astro Spectras on UHF.....but other areas of our fleet now have XTL5000s)
I could use some upgrades probably on mobiles and repeaters....(especially the Quantar that is my HAM rptr and the blasted IDer WONT run while a user in analog is keyed...ARG!)

Ok, the mobiles are finally done and posted.. Both lists are still a work in progress, so I'll try and keep everything as updated as I can.

Enjoy!

Quick note to add. I just did an uplift (host, DSP, and UCM) to versions 11.00.03 and 5.xx.xx respectively on my XTS5K M2s and it provided a max 1000 modes.

POP25 via ASTRO conventional in R12!?!?!? I'll have to have a chat with the Big M guys that support us. I asked for the R12 file, since I had to do flash upgrade refreshes on all these radios anyway, might as well do it with the latest revision. The sales guy (the guy who filters me out from their engineers) said that their backshop stated that "it wasn't worth their effort or mine", and just go with R11. What?!?!? Some of you guys own or operate businesses, what do you think your customers would do if you told them support wasn't worth your effort? POP25 over conventional channels is definately worth my effort!!

I'm willing to bet that you used R12 CPS to load that R11.00.03 firmware cvn.. The .mdf files in the CPS batch is what actually controls the max chan cap.. So if you did a firmware bump with R12 CPS, even though you used an R11 firmware cvn, the process still updated the codeplug to R12, hence the 1000 chans it shows. Or I could be totally off on my assumption..

Nope, you're 100% percent correct. That's good info, thank you much!

I updated the portable and mobile to include the surprising small additions that the long awaited R13.00.00 brings with it..

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

Isn't ver. 11 firmware was the stuff that had the potential to brick for no reason???

Yep, R11.00.00 is a time bomb just waiting to brick your radio. They quickly released R11.00.01 that solved this problem.

I personally know of 3 people with R11.00.00 that bricked their radios :o
