GTX "Basic" Portable - a few questions

Post by g8tzl2004 »

I have a GTX "Basic" Portable - there is no LCD display or keypad - just a 16 channel rotary switch. The set appears to power up OK but looks like it is just programmed for trunking frequencies.

The date on the GTX is 23 July 2001 - as confirmed by the serial number 866FBN.... which equals July 2001. The RSS I have is version R04.00.00 dated 17 Feb 2000. I did some searching and there appears to be a later version of the RSS ie. R04.00.01 dated 6 Oct 2000. I have a few questions:

- Is R04.00.01 the latest version?

- will a GTX Basic Portable made in July 2001 have been programmed with version R04.00.01 dated Oct 2000 when it was set up with default factory freqs? So if I use my version R04.00.00, I will likely get "codeplug too new"??

- I understand that you can only set up 4 conventional channels on a "Basic" GTX?

- Is it possible to set up a carrier squelch defeat key (so you get white noise). With my GTX Mobile , you can only set up a CTCSS defeat key.

Thanks

Yes, it is.

Yes, it would have been 4.00.01 right from the start. The LCS software is normally quite forgiving & will allow older RSS to be used, so I don't think you'll have a problem with your version...unless the 'basic' model didn't exist at the time...then you'll get a 'model doesn't exist' error when you read it. However, I would imagine that would've constituted a greater version change than the '.01' at the end of the version number.

Yes, although I believe people have modified the RSS to allow 10 like the standard GTX.

I believe it's the same for the portables.

Many thanks Todd.

Version R04.00.00 was the first GTX RSS to support the "Basic" portable - so hopefully I will be OK!!

Its interesting that Moto actually produced some "forgiving" RSS!!!

Thanks
