How to send Maxtrac audio to pC for streaming online

Post by mmb »

I have several Maxtracs, I'd like to use one as a streaming scanner feed for online, how do I connect the Maxtrac's audio to the PC as well as have it so you also have the maxtracs speaker working?

If they have the 16-pin accessory connector on the back, pin 11 will be your RX audio, and use 11 as ground. If you need the plug to connect to the accessory connector, that would be the HLN9242A kit.

I believe you meant to say 'use pin 7 as ground'. Pin 11 for discriminator audio is correct. To the OP, the output level is fixed (not affected by the volume control) so you can adjust your speaker volume without fear of messing up your streaming feed.

Also stick the mic in and ground it or otherwise ground the HUB line and take it out of monitor. This will enable reverse burst muting and take the ending squelch crash out which sounds terrible out computer speakers.
Lots and lots of watts...

Hi,

I would use something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Balanced-Receive-Au ... |294%3A200

Or build a cable with a isolation transformer in line to keep ground loop issues from interfering with your streaming audio.

Hope this helps...

Thanks to all! I think streaming the Maxtrac's audio will sound better than any of my scanners, plus, seeing as I have a 70 foot high antenna connected to it I can stream counties in my area that don't have feeds yet.

Pin 1 (pin 8 on the maxtrac schematic) in the mic jack is also filtered squelched audio and at 600 ohms unbalanced. Also known as handset audio. And not affected by the volume control either. You can also jumper the hang-up pin to ground in the same plug.

I use the pins in the back, but i put an isolation transformer in line to prevent any feedback or "Hum" on the Audio line. You can usually get those little transformers at Rat Shack
