Motorola CDM-750 error

Post by 1585hp »

Good morning everyone,

I have a Motorola CDM-750, IMUB6002A, AAM25DKC9AA1AN, for 42-50 MHz.

It was a perfectly good working radio, with firmware version R05.03.00. I went to upgrade to the latest firmware version I have, R05.07.02, and all appeared to go well. I got no error messages during the upgrade. I turned the rib HLN9742B flashing adapter switch to off then unplugged the RKN4081B ribless cable from the mic jack just like instructed before powering the radio up, now I get two beeps - a long one followed by a short one, like a Morse code "N".

I beleive this may be the dreaded CS ROM ERROR or an EEPROM ERROR, not sure.

My flash software is a legally licensed firmware upgrade kit, and I'm using the official Motorola ribless cable and Flashing adapter. I have used this PC to upgrade firmware many times before without problem. I had the baud rate set to 19200, the slowest rate, as well.

I tried writing an older codeplug back into the radio, and the CPS just says it "Failed to convert database into codeplug image". I am using CPS version R06.10.02. I can read from the radio with no problem. So, I read from the radio and saved the file, but when I tried to dump the program back into it, I get the "Failed to convert database into codeplug image"

Everytime I remove power to the radio, then re-install the power cable and power up, I get the two beeps, dah dit. I try to put the radio into bootstrap mode by moving the flash adapter to B then pressing the power button twice, waiting at least 1 second in between, and the firmware kit says the radio is not in bootstrap mode??

I don't know what else to try. I have read of tools out there, like the Waris Depot tool, US Waris Codeplug Kit and US Waris Firmware kit. Anyone have any ideas what else to try? Is there a way to force it into bootstrap mode so I can try jamming the firmware into it again?

Hi,
Use this cps to fix your radio.

===============================================================
Professional Radio - Customer Programming Software R06.11.05
================================================================

Enhancements in this release:
---------------------
N/A

Fixed Reported Issues:
----------------------
- Enhancement CPS reading and writing feature: if target radio's codeplug is corrupt, CPS will try to recover the target radio with default codeplug.

Note: When programming radio, radio has display of "Test Mode" some times. This is a different but normal behavior compare to previous version.

- To avoid confusion, rephrase the secondary pop up warning message "The device is not supported by the application"
as "The CPS operation on this device failed. Please refer to the readme file for possible reasons."

Note: The most possible reasons (but not all) to see the secondary pop up warning message are:
(1) The target radio model number mismatch CPS archive file.
(2) The target radio region ID is not supported by the CPS.
(3) The target radio codeplug mismatch with the CPS.
(4) CPS password verification failed when write radio.
(5) CPS and radio communication error.

I now have the latest R6.11.05 CPS, can still read the radio, but cannot write to it still.

I don't see any options in the CPS to allow you to fix corrupted codeplug, still getting the same error, "Unable to convert database into codeplug image". Only difference is radio beeps and I hear white noise while trying to program now. Is the CPS supposed to tell you you have a corrupted codeplug and try to fix it for you automatically?

Anyone have any other ideas?

Hello,
Load file codeplug the same radio model number, then write to the radio.

Program screen will appear as shown below:

Select:
Recovery the radio with the default codeplug.

The ROM CS Error happens as a corruption of the actual operating system in the radio. This can't be corrected with the current CPS program, although I have asked the engineer working on this to please ask the software folks to add a "restore the ROM code" function to the CPS - else its a trip to the Depot for fixing.

I have bricked many CDM radios with several of the more recent versions of CDM firmware upgrades although this problem didn't exist with much older upgrades.
Motorola has put a newer version of the flashing software on MOL (says updated 8-12-09). I have downloaded R05.08.05 flash and have gone through a bunch of
CDM1250's to see if it would corrupt the code plug. None so far! (Fingers crossed)

After talking with the engineer working on this case, the software writers found a timing issue between the control head and main body of the radio at the end of the write of the code plug. They actually kept a couple of the radios I sent in to dissect them to figure out where in the code plug the corruption took place.

With previous versions of flash, everything would be normal as to the writing to the radio. You would get the message saying everything
wrote OK and then the instructions of turning off the flash adapter and then unplugging the programming cable before
rebooting the radio. Everything looked OK until the radio rebooted and then came up with the ROM CS Error message. (your radio is now a brick)

The CPS code plug fix talked about in other posting isn't for this issue at all, but rather for the corrupt frequency data in the code plug.

Thank you, I figured it was a firmware issue, not a codeplug issue.

I can read the radio, but cannot write to it, period. I tried reading from the radio with the global tuner, it won't read with the Global Tuner or write.

I did find and use the US Waris Codeplug tool, and was able using the IMUxxxxxx number to install the proper "codeplug" into the radio, obviously screwing up all the allignment settings, but that's not an issue.

When I read with the CPS, I see no errors at all. No funny characters in the frequency or any other fields.

I also did the Y-adapter trick listed on batlabs. I flashed both the bad and good radio with the firmware, that didn't work either! Upgraded the firmware on the new radio with no problem, though, to 5.08.05, think that's right, it's the latest release.

I have bricked several CDM's going to 5.07.02, I guess the timing issue possibly explains it. This is the first CDM-750 I've bricked, the other two were CDM-1250's.

There is a seller on e-bay that says he can unbrick them by changing a chip. Anyone sent him a CDM yet to see if he can do it or not?
