Are there any RELIABLE sources for the MTX9000 display boards (radio P/N H01WCF4DB5AN NX). I don't remember if the key count matters (I need 15 key).
Every time I go to E-Bay, no one wants to give out any info on the ones they are selling (ie, reworked).
I sent this radio to a guy and had it repaired, I paid 30 buck and it lasted 3 months..........
Thank you in advance!
Pat

Re: MTX9000 display
Your radio is old and out of production and you will have problems finding parts for it. You can start by trying Motorola direct, or a friendly Motorola Service Shop if you have one nearby.
eBay is usually a waste of time for parts, and often for radios as well. Most of the people selling tech items there don't know much about what they're selling. Finding a display board on eBay for almost any Motorola radio is a rarity, and when you do find one you need to get an ironclad guarantee that it will work or else you'll get your money back.
Sending a radio off to be "fixed" by someone you don't know is usually a bad idea. If you're a ham you should hook up with some locals who are using 900 mHz and see if they can help. If you're in the 900 mHz business for the long haul the best way to go is to acquire used/broken radios when and if you can find them, and then cannibalize them to keep one or two good radios going. And if you need only a few channels the best radio around is probably the GTX portable with the display; you mod the MDF file and it does 902/927 just fine. The GTXs are cheap and readily available but, as I said above, they only do a few analog FM channels.

Thanks Tom!
Yes, I am a ham and do some commercial stuff too. I am in the LA area, though I do like the GTX series and own a mobile GTX I never got around to selling, if they had 32 channels they would be perfect for LA.
I purchased this radio off of E-Bay from the guy that converts them to ham. I bought it after the Spectra I purchased from him worked GREAT! 30 watts for a base and a good antenna works very well.
I bought this radio because of the common accessories that it has with my HT-1000's that I already own.
I sent it back to the gentlemen that originally converted it, considering he did a few of the repeaters in the LA area and converted the radio originally, I figured he would be the guy to fix it. Now after it went bad again, he won't return my e-mails (go figure). Being it has been converted, the local MOT shop won't touch it with a 10 foot pole....
There is a "display kit" on E-Bay right now for the MTS2000 and the MTX8000 that will work, but no reply to my questions if it has been "reworked". That is not a good sign.....
I was hoping there was a parts house or some other reputable source that specialized in this old MOT stuff seeing it is still very popular.
These old JEDI series meet my requirement of being able to operate at a mountain top repeater site (with all the hash and trash in LA) and being able to beat a mountain lion half to death that thinks I would make a good lunch.
Thanks again!

Pat,
It looks as if your problem may be on its way to being solved. That's (usually) the way this Board works when it works right.
Good luck.

Thanks again Tom!
My problem does indeed seem to be solved!
The last time I came here and asked a question, it was after bugging my buddies that work on MOT's for a living, I bugged for a month (Both of them work for PD's)....
I posted a question here and by the end of the day I had the correct answer.
Keep up the GREAT work! No snoty answeres! Just answers......... (the search function works well too).
Best regrads (V/R)
