W3 HHCH HMN4044

Post by tfr501 »

Does anyone know what revisions were made on the HMN4044 between revisions C, D and E?
"E" is the latest revision.
I'm in the process of purchasing two HHCH's from a guy that has 1 "C" and 1 "D" model. Hopefully there are no major issues between the rev's.

Thanks!

Anybody can help with list of compatible radios?

I am especially interesting in HMN4044E.

- Astro Spectra
- XTL5000

Something else?

That is an O series TIB it is not a W series TIB

Go ahead, smoke your Bravo processor, no big deal right?

ETA: Actually it shouldn't smoke anything, but it won't work either

Ok, thank you!

What's P/Ns of TIBs for XTL5000 and Astro Spectra compatible with W3 (HMN4044)?

I purchased HMN4044E from you but not yet tried it.

What's the big DB25 connector for, then? Siren? Vehicular repeater? Surely it can't just be there for that huge hunka overkill remote speaker/ignition sense cable.

The DB25 on the O series TIB is known as J600. It functions as a legacy interface (siren, VRS, etc) as well as an accessory connections path (the only one on a high power radio, as they lack the J2 rear accy connector). Read on:
The XTL5000 BSM wrote:J600 TIB - Data and Audio Interface

J600 is located on the transceiver interface board (TIB). This connector is the legacy accessory interface, but contains some additional pin functionality. Figure 9-8 illustrates the J600 connector while Table 9-8 describes the function of each pin.

IIRC, there are two remote cables you can use for the O3 head. One has the J600 plug, and the other just contains the igniton/speaker leads. I'm tired, so it might not be 100% accurate. The problem with the J600 version is that you have to run a nice thick cable up front from the rear (which is what I did...just in case I needed to add something in the future off of the DB15? connector on the other end). Other wise, just the O3 cable and the usual rear accessory cable will power up the radio.

Interesting. Do you happen to have the part number for the J600 cable? It would be nice to have the head, speaker, and ignition sense all on one cable like a W3 Astro Spectra.

Of course, this discussion is all academic for me since apparently a O3 head runs you a cool $800 at NSO cost. :o

Well, no, you can't just run one cable from J600 up front and expect everything to plug into it, there's two separate cables. See this excellent post by Jason for some pictures worth several thousand words:

Would I be correct in assuming that the pigtail DB-25 on the remote cable would be for the siren / DEK interface?

Oh well. Wishful thinking on my part.. it seems redundant to have to run two separate cables where one sufficed in the past. At least the accessory cable isn't excessively expensive.

Now, does running an O3 head require you to use J600 for speaker and ignition sense, or can you run them off the rear connector?

You can use either or (or neither, if you want a really quiet radio :)

Okay to revive an old thread....

Does a HMN4044E work with an XTS5000 in an XTVA or must I use the PLN7737B (phone style connector) HHCH?

Yeah, only the PLN7737 head will work with the XTVA.
