Scan Program Problem W/XTS 3000 HELP
i programmed a XTS 3000 with the newest cps and made the a,b,c switch for the scan.
a=scan prgm
b=scan
c=talkaround/direct (only way i could get it off scan to monitor one channel)
when i go to letter A the screen shows SEL and DEL. When i press either one all it does is make the invalid beep noise and dont remove or add to scan list. am i doing something wrong here? also is the C position correct? is that the only way i can get it to stop scan?
That seems to be the only issue for now. LOL

Re: Scan Program Problem W/XTS 3000 HELP
You also have to build a scan list with the features you want (priority, user program, etc.) and then assign the scan list to the personality that you want the scan to work with. Several steps involved and it's not exactly intutive...

Re: Scan Program Problem W/XTS 3000 HELP
I've found from experience that using the ABC switch for scan control is a bad idea. The reason is that, whatever you have the switches set for, when you're in one position you're locked out of the other two functions. You could try setting the side buttons for your scan setup, with SCAN on the top button and NUISANCE DELETE on the middle button. Then you can put your TALKAROUND on the ABC switch as B and normal operation as A, leaving the C unused. On my radios the third side button is MONITOR and the top red button is LIGHT control for manual operation.
The best, but obviously not the only, use for the ABC switch is on XTS1 radios for zone selection, there being only three zones on those radios. I suspect that the ABC switch is there primarily for XTS1 units.
It's all a question of personal preferences since the programming gives so many choices, but some choices make more sense when applied to certain buttons and switches.

Re: Scan Program Problem W/XTS 3000 HELP
Hello I have a scan list and also set it up. When ever I try and edit the scan list it don't allow me. When I goto position A which is prgm scan the sel anx del keys don't add or remove the channels. Its like its set in stone. What ever I program in the cps for a scan list that's what it is and will not allow me to edit it.

Re: Scan Program Problem W/XTS 3000 HELP
You mention user program I don't have a option for that in the cps. Am I missing something here?
Re: Scan Program Problem W/XTS 3000 HELP
Ok, when you put the radio into scan program mode, use the side purple button to add/delete channels from your scan list.. Turn the channel knob through your channels, and if there is a scan symbol on your display, that means that channel is in your scan list. Press the purple button and the scan symbol goes away, meaning the channel is no longer in the scan list.. I'm trying to go the easiest route for you since you seem to be getting very confused with your radio..
Also, on your A-B-C switch, to take the radio out of scan you can also program one of the positions to "Blank" or "Unprogrammed". That will take it out of scan, without using the "Talkaround/Direct" function.

Stupidity creates job security!
If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..
CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

Re: Scan Program Problem W/XTS 3000 HELP
MFIRE39 i thank you for your help but when i put it in position A which is pgrm scan list and press the purple button it does the same thing. i get the error noise like when i press the sel and del buttons once its in pgrm scan list. like the all those buttons are unprogrramed or something. which on the CPS there not.
Also when i set the C switch to unprogrammed or blank it dont take it out of scan. just makes a error noise when i goto that C switch. So could some one please address this because none of your help is working. I have the newest CPS and i dont understand why it wont work.

okay so here is what i did. i made two zones. zone 1 has 16 ch and zone 2 has 11. i have two scan lists. scan list 1 has 15 ch and scan list 2 has 11. now i can do the scan prgm now. it allows me to put into scan or take out. but i really only want one scan list with 15 ch and then really one zone but the ch selector only goes 1 to 16 so thats why i had to use two zones to view all ch. so can i have just one scan list and be able to program it with the 15ch?

XTS3000 Astro Dispatch ID Help??
When i monitor a astro channel i can see the dispatch ID as well as the Offiers. Is there a way to program that ID i see (which never changes) into the radio through the CPS so it comes up as a Aplha instead of the Numbers?
Re: Scan Program Problem W/XTS 3000 HELP
OK, with you so far. More to the point, you've created a number of conventional personalities, and assigned 15 of them to channels in one zone, and 11 of them to the other zone.noreaster0095 wrote:okay so here is what i did. i made two zones. zone 1 has 16 ch and zone 2 has 11. i have two scan lists. scan list 1 has 15 ch and scan list 2 has 11. now i can do the scan prgm now. it allows me to put into scan or take out.
Now you lost me. How many zones are you trying to set up? How many scan lists have you created? How are you referencing those scan lists from each of the conventional personalities you're created and added to your zones?noreaster0095 wrote:but i really only want one scan list with 15 ch and then really one zone but the ch selector only goes 1 to 16 so thats why i had to use two zones to view all ch. so can i have just one scan list and be able to program it with the 15ch?
Slow down and clarify exactly what it is you're trying to accomplish, and then we can help you further.

Re: Scan Program Problem W/XTS 3000 HELP
okay here is what i did.
i have two zones.
zone 1 = 16 channels
zone 2 = 11 channels
scan list 1 = 15
scan list 2 = 11
now what i want to do is be able to add any channels from zone 1 or 2 to scan list 1. i dont care about scan list 2. i only have it there because thats the only way i could get the pgrm scan feature to work. so should just have two zones and one scan list and be able to edit it and add what ever channels i want or will that not work? I had it setup like that in the first place and it didnt allow me to pgrm the scan list from the radio. i guess i just need a step by step on how to get the scan list pgrm feature to work on the radio.
right now when i pgrm the scan list i can only use the channels from zone 1 when sometimes i want zone 2 in the scan list 1 as well. seems the only way i can get channels from two zones in the scan list 1 is to do it from the CPS.
also does anyone know if there is a way to program the astro ids from the diaptch intot he radio so i can label them with alpha instead of just seeing the numbers?

Re: Scan Program Problem W/XTS 3000 HELP
Have you looked at the help screen for scan?
I'm not sure how much experience you have with CPS.
When setting up a scan list you have to do several things and it is not intuitive on how to do it. Some of the things have to be done in a certain order or you won't be able to configure it.
Since you have a display radio you really don't need to put any controls on the ABC switch except keypad lock. It is too easy for that switch to get bumped to another position and cause you some heartburn.
Okay, I'm going to give you my step by step instructions. I'm not saying this is "the" way, but it is a way, others may have similar but different procedures.
From the codeplug tree, go down and click on scan. You have at least two choices - Scan Configuration and Scan list. Click on scan list and then scan list 1 (or whichever scan list you are wanting to set up). The first item is scan type. If this is a trunking radio your choices are Conventional, Priority Mon, and Talkgroup, if it is a conventional radio then all you will see is Conventional. Pick the one that fits your application. If you are scanning a conventional system, pick conventional, if trunking, pick between Priority Mon - provides priority scan of a trunking system and Talkgroup - non-priority scan of a trunking system.
If you are setting up a trunked radio then select the system you are wanting to scan with this list in the Trunking System section.
If you have selected conventional or Priority Mon, now move to the priority assignment. I would suggest selecting "Selected Channel" for Priority 1 so you don't run into issues of missing traffic on your selected channel while scanning. If you want one of the scan list members to be your Priority 1, you will need to populate the scanlist first because you can only assign a current scan list member as your Priority 1 member.
For Priority 2 you can have Fixed, Selected Chan, or Operator Select. If you are wanting Fixed, you will need to populate the scan list first because you can only assign a current scan list member as your Priority 2 member.
Move on down to Non-Priority Members. Your choices are Fixed or Operator Select. I'm going to assume you want Operator Select. Lastly you want to set the Designated Voice Tx member. Your choices are Selected Chan, Talkback, or one of the scan list members. Anything other than Selected Chan is a bad idea. Talkback will cause the radio to transmit on the last channel it heard something on while scanning, and picking one of the scan list members will cause the radio to transmit on whichever member you have selected. Again, anything other than Selected Chan is a bad idea because it will result in the radio transmitting on the wrong channel while scanning. If you are wanting Fixed, you will need to populate the scan list first because you can only assign a current scan list member as your talkback member.
Now that you have set up your scan list, go back to the codeplug tree. If this is a conventional scan list then go to conventional personality, if its trunking, go to Trunking Personality. Open the personality that you want to have associated with this scan list. Click on the Scan tab. Go to the Scan List Selection and pick the desired scan list. You have to do this on EVERY personality you want associated with this scan list. The personality does not have to be a member of the scan list, but if you want certain channels to scan the same way when selected, you have to apply the scan list to them.
You could have Zone A, channels 1-16 set up with all their personalities associated with scan list 1 and scan list 1 could be scanning only the channels on Zone D. If the Zone D channels' personalities were associated with scan list 2, then when you selected any channel on Zone D, scan list 1 would no longer apply and whatever you have scan list 2 set up for will then be operational. Once you have this programmed into the radio, you can program a scan list across Zones by using the left or right arrow on the keypad while in scan program mode.
About the other question about IDs. If your radio is flashed for ID display (FC should start with a 5), then that is setup in the Radio Configuration, Display & Menu section of the codeplug tree. Go to that section and goto "Advanced" and click the checkbox for ID display. If it's not there, then your radio does not have that feature set enabled. If you want Astro IDs associated with an alpha tag, you will need to program your call list with the IDs and their names. The radio will pull the ID name from the call list and display it when it decodes the ID. I don't know if it will do this for MDC ID's. I don't think it will.
Hope this helps.

okay so here is what i did for the ID:.
under the personality i set the talkgroup options to enable and setup the talkgroup and which id goes with the channel and talkgroup. i have the display and menu set for display on ptt, on recieve and on mode change. astro call under personality is set to decode and encode. i also made the talkgroup list and put all the ids in it. still the radio only shows the ID numeric not aplha. what am i doing wrong?

Robert,
Apparently the XTS3000 does not support the aliasing of IDs as I described above. I found this post 390734 that pretty much sums it up. Sorry for the goose chase...

Re: Scan Program Problem W/XTS 3000 HELP
It's too bad you were misled by Motorola's nutty way of naming and numbering their radios. The 3000 is an earlier generation radio compared to the 2500 and 5000. If you had checked the basic specs you'd have seen that it only does 3600 baud trunking where the other radios do 9600 and that basic fact would have tipped you off about why the 3K was $400 less in cost. You're still better off than you would have been a year or so ago because the selling prices of all these radios have dropped some in that time.

Re: Scan Program Problem W/XTS 3000 HELP
so the xts3000 is still a good radio correct? i know most of the police in my area use xts3000 and the state police use xts5000. what happened is on ebay there was a xts2500 and the person wanted $1000. i was about to buy it. but then another guy had a mint condition xts300 with impres battery and charger for $499. I traded him my Motorola HT1550 plus shipping for the XTS. I already had the software so i knew i could program it easy.

$499 is too much money for a XS3000, I see XTS3000 on egay for between $200 and $300 also my guess for what your needs are is you should have gone with the XTS2500.
Re: Scan Program Problem W/XTS 3000 HELP
I leave the A B C switch alone, and use the secure/clear concentric switch as my scan select.
I have 6 zones and a scan list for each zone, with priority channels slaved from each zone into the first zone so I can hear pertinent traffic, no matter what zone I am currently in.
I use the orange Emergency button for nuisance delete.
Switch A is low power, B is High power and C is keypad lock.
