Xts2500 No Power up tone

Post by firemedic4 »

Has anyone every came across this problem. I sent a radio in for service for low audio when the radio turns on. The radio came back with R12.00.01. The radio came back with the same problem. I cloned it to a new radio with the same firmware and still no loud tone on power up ?

Well the place to begin is in the CPS and whether the power up tone is enabled.

I have the same problem. XTS2500s on a 800 P25 trunked system in MN. Every portable in my fleet does this. I can't figure it out. The guys want the power up tone like the old VHFs.

I have ALERT TONES and POWER UP SELF TEST ALERT TONE enabled in raido wide / alert tones. I have MUTE as a menu option and all tones are ON.

When pressing menu items on the radio a beep is heard that coincides with the volume setting. Grant tones are heard as well.

However, when powering up the radio a minute beep is heard, like a menu beep, but this beep is very low and the position of the volume knob has no bearing on this beep.

Motorola just released a new firmware version which among other things fixes some audio level issues on the Astro25 portable radios. I believe that the issues were introduced around firmware R10 or so. I would inquire to see if your case falls within any SRN and might be eligible for a warranty firmware upgrade.

You nailed it, I have a radio with host 10.00.01/DSP 10.00.00 that works like it should. Most of the radios effected by this are 11.00.01/DSP 11.00.00. Thank you for your advise, but I must admit the thought of flashing over 300 portables makes my stomach uneasy!

I bet 11.00.00 was either an accident avoided or a oh crap moment for you then

My problem is I do the radio thing as a "side duty" ...our county is smaller and can not afford a radio tech so its a pain to do the codeplug / flash updates, or to do the "optimizing" every year or two.

As a side note, I just got a 2500 back from the depot that had a bad display. I assume they flashed it with the most recent firmware when it was sent out? It is Host 12.00.17 /DSP12.00.05. This radio / firmware does have the problem with no power up tone too.

Most of those 7k are legacy flashport subscribers, so we really didn't get bit by the R11 fiasco.

12.00.18 solves the audio issues. I haven't seen anything come back from the depot with that yet.
