Hello,
I am looking for a way to modify some Spectras with W7 heads to automatically power up when the main power is applied. These radio will be used for linkers at remote sites and will be powered by power supplies. I want to make it so that the radios will power back up on their own following a complete power failure. Yes, I can put a UPS on it but I want to make sure even if that fails or goes dead before the power is restored that once line power is restored the Spectra powers back on. Has anyone modified their radio to make this work?
My initial experiment involved holding the power button in while applying power and the radio did power up and seem to function normally. I didn't come across any adverse affects of holding the power button in constantly but I didn't test everything yet. I may take a radio, open the control head, short the power button contacts and see what happens.
Thanks for any tips any of you can give me.
Eric

No need to do all that. You can jumper the control head to power the radio as soon as ignition sense sees 12V.
Looking at the back of the control head board, just to the left of the mic connector is a voltage regulator with two spots for 0-ohm resistor jumpers directly underneath it. The one you want is the one right next to the diode. Astro Spectras are slightly different, but the jumper spots are in the same general vicinity.

That works perfect. Thanks!!!!
