encrypted extender

So I just finished up a project: setting up a few system sabers up with DES-XL encryption. The 2 high band ones talk simplex back and forth fine. I also have a UHF system saber (DES-XL) also. I tried talking between the UHF and VHF one using a cross band repeater (extender)- Kenwood TK-730 and a Pyramid SVR-200U. By the way if you ever thought about getting a Pyramid product, do it there tech support is AMAZING!!!

Well.... it did not work, I guess no big suprise there. Just the usual DES hiss (from the UHF radio and from the UHF radio into the extender I got nothing ), the Kenwood would not key up , but it works fine in the clear.

So here is the question , finally , has anyone had any luck making a combo like this work. Also (as I am sure there is and incrediably expensive) is there a Motorola setup that allows encrypted vehicular repeating , like a special VRS or does just a normal VRS work when paired with a securnet radio?

If you have deep pockets, take a look at this link for a device made by FutureCom and sold by Motorola. It's probably several thousand dollar$ a copy but will do exactly what you are wanting.

If you want to do it on a budget, I believe the configuration used by The Pager Geek to make Astro repeaters out of Maxtrac radios also passes Securenet. Link to thread below:

Maxtracs won't do it, you might be able to do it with a pair of Spectra's. You need to tap off the reclocked digital stream out of the Securenet decoder board and re-inject it into the Securenet tx pin on the Spectra accessory connector on the command board. I have made a few Securenet repeaters using Securenet MX radios, but with out all the hardware the suitcase repeater uses. You can also take 2 Securenet capable radios and run them back to back. Have one decode the coded transmission and then rebroadcast it on another with the same code in the transmit radio. You do lose some of the intelligbility on weak signals, but if you are using them in close proximity, they should work just fine.
