Waris Radio Issue (Maybe) HT-1250

Post by KE9GK »

Greetings....

Just picked up a VERY NOS VHF HT-1250 circa 2001 for the right price. According to the tag it has 4.00.01 firmware in it. I am able to read/write the radio just fine with the CPS...it transmits/receives within spec...all the programmable front and side buttons appear to function correctly...with 1 exception.....I can't get the damned thing to go into menu mode when I press the upper right hand button like it is supposed to. The only thing I get is the typical Moto low "berp" tone when I push it...and nothing happens. Does anyone have any ideas? Am I just a re-re and missing something obvious in the CPS? I dumped a known good codeplug from another radio into the unit and the button still doesn't function....is this a firmware issue? I have downloaded the latest from MOL...but I dont have/haven't built a bootstrap dongle yet...so I really haven't tried a firmware refresh yet. I guess I would like to know if this is a common issue first...prior to attempting to kill the radio by re-flashing it.

Thanks

It's been a while since I've been in the CPS for a Waris radio, but if I recall correctly, you are able to select what items are available on the menu. Is it possible you don't have any items selected?

Is that berp a normal berp or the low berp like when you press an unassigned function button?
The bandsplit is only a suggestion.

Have you tried re-plugging the cable between the keypad and the main board? I think the radio makes that low beep with an unprogrammed button. If there is a short between two pins, it might think you are pushing a different button than you are?

I would be looking at the firmware version first before I would open the radio. It's possible that option was not available with 4.00. Upgrade the radio to 5.14, then see if you have the same problem, 5.14 is supposed to correct other problems with that series of radio, including a howling sound on transmit audio on some frequencies.
