HT1250 CPS/Cable questions

Post by jantman »

Hello,

I searched as much as I could take, but after about the 10th page of results, I couldn't find explicit answers to these questions. Sorry if the answers are here but buried somewhere in the search that I didn't get to. Links to previous posts (or flames) are gladly accepted.

I handle pager programming for my volunteer ambulance corps, and now need to do reprogram about a half dozen HT1250s. It's no longer worth sending them out for $75/radio. I have a MOL account, so I can buy what I need, I just have a few questions that MOL doesn't seem to answer...

1) The dealer programming kit for the HT series (H5177R) seems to include the CPS and a cable for the RIB. The current CPS alone (HVN9025X, CPS R06.11.10) sells for slightly *more* than the kit. Is this right? If I want to use a RIBless cable, is there any way I can get the software cheaper than the kit?

2) Is the CPS the same for a RIB or a RIBless cable? I do have a /\/\ original RLN4008B that was donated to us - I assume the current CPS will work with this?

3) Assuming I opt to go with the RIBless cable, are there any recommended aftermarket vendors that would be cheaper than /\/\ OEM, or is the consensus that none of them are up to par with /\/\ specifications (unlike the RIBs, where I see a lot of the local guys using the Polaris ones)?

4) Is there any Windows-based CPS that supports the MCS2000, as we also have eight of these?

Thanks for any answers or pointers,
Jason

1) Yes it is right. The included cable goes between the radio and the RIB If you have a ribless cable, just get the H5177 and put the included cable in a draw somewhere (or sell it)
2) Yes.
3) CHEAPER than eBay? It doesn't get cheaper than eBay. If you are interested in a good aftermarket rib/ribless vendor, check out Polaris USA.
4) There sure is. RVN4175V, CPS R02.02.00 MCS 2000, list $263
The bandsplit is only a suggestion.

Grr... would be nice if they had a kit with the CPS and the ribless cable...

Oops... sorry... guess I was thinking faster than I was typing, or the opposite. I meant cheaper than /\/\, but still recommended (i.e. high quality). OP updated to remove the brain fart.

Thanks.

I guess, assuming we still want to go through with it, I'll get the H5177, use the RIB we have now, and if we ever need to program the MCS2000s again, we'll buy RVN4175V then (assuming, hopefully, they don't discontinue it). This is all assuming, of course, that the RIB we have actually works (I had an /\/\ reseller check it, and he said it's good... but I tend not to believe things I didn't see with my own eyes...)
