Waris Series Delay on rx or tx

Post by KitN1MCC »

the railroad i work at is having issues with the waris series they claim there is a delay when keys down and the first part of the transmission is missing. i explained that this is some what normal and others have complained about this. we have been changing to norac rule book and the manager who is not technical asked the other railroads they said they dont have this issue with the newer radios that will work with Narrow band. i asked him to find out the models. they get on my case and i explain this is an issue with the radio the 2 we do have are ht750 from 2000 and a newer cdm1250 but that does not really seem to do it. i explained these are really the only radio we can use now with out spending 1200 a piece

Well, lets think of a couple obvious things...

is there MDC enabled? could be the unmute times.

How old is the firmware? if we're talking radios from 2000 that haven't been refreshed, it's way over due and should make a big difference.

What Josh said.

If you are not using signalling, then you should see no significant delay in RX/TX.

I would get a service shop that is knowledgable with these radios to come in and troubleshhot the issue. This should include a firmware resfresh on all the radios.

The first thing I would check is MDC transmit, whether it's set for pre or post, I have ours set for post to reduce the transmitter delay. When I started at my Rail Road I suggested we enable MDC decode for lost radio tracing. What I failed to realize is that the radio was programed for a default DOS delay of 500ms, and that was cutting out the first sylable of the word being sent. I set the DOS delay to Zero, and that took care of the problem. If you have MDC enabled at all per channel, whether you are using it or not, you may be having the same trouble. Also updating the firmware is a good practice, as it gets rid of known issues with the radio.

yeah i will have to adjust the dos. then the worse part is the manager who is not technically minded. has been talking to other railroads and he says i made it look stupid. he thinks i told him it was a required then i reminded him that going narrow band is what is required and these are the radios that work
