800 mhz trunking spectras

Post by kb2crk »

i have bid and won a couple of spectras that i believe to be trunking units.
one is a w5 dash mount as far as i can tell. the other two are set up as a base unit with dictaphone recording units attached. are these worth anything? like if parted out or set up as receivers? they belonged to a local police dept outside of atlanta and were on a countywide system. any help would be ap[preciated.
thanks paul

well i can forget about the desktop units. got out bid at the last second but i did get the mobile and i am watching some mcs 2000 model 1's.

Spectra? 800MHz? Good for a paperweight or door stop.

I know they agency they came from. They are about 15-18 years old.
Smartnet II, non-rebandable. Good source of parts or conventional use.
Otherwise a door stop (at least around here, only two analog non-rebanded systems remain on the air in ATL)

so my best bet would be to part it out. lol
well i won the mobile and did not end up with the desktop.
so i will have to drive down and pick up my new doorstop...lol
it will cost me more in gas to go pick it up than the radio itself.
maybe i could get it re programmed to listen in on athens 800 mhz system.
we shall see....

will work until athens/clarke rebands or goes digital, the latter is supposed to happen the next 90 days.

They make good conventional receivers for system testing, they can be moved up to 902 for amateur repeater receivers, and they can be moved down to 806-824 for DF use on system inputs.

It's really a shame, as these were some great radios, & still are. But seeing as they won't reband, won't do narrow band where they need to, & the timebomb caps, you can't hardly give them away. I have 2 UHF 438-470 Spectras, that Will has worked on, & I use them daily on the UHF ham bands, & I'll probably use them till I can't talk anymore. Couldn't ask for a better radio, but their days in commercial service are coming to an end. Sad, but time marches on. GARY N4KVE

well as of right now i believe it is a 800mhz trunking radio. there was no model number listed and it was listed at the same time as a bunch of mcs 2000 model 1 and and 3's. the main system is 8oomhz but the county has uhf and vhf for back up so who knows. i will find out at 3 pm tomorrow when i pick it up.

well i picked it up today. a small surprise was it had almost all the accessories including an antenna. i thought it had a brand new mounting bracket but it turns out it was for the radio that replaced it. tomorrow i will test it out to see if it is functional. if not i will have some parts for sale...lol. damn shame is the fact it is a 800mhz. if it works i may turn it into a 902 receiver.

I'd say sell it to Fulton. They still have yet to reband...wait they have no money to buy it.

the mount that came with it is a hln6861b and it is still in its box. i think ebay might be a good bet. of course i can sell it one piece at a time. if athens clarke is going digital in the next 90 days then there will be a whole lot more hitting the market soon.

well it has been tested out and it does work. i know 30 watts 800 mhz is not worth much but then i did not give much for it.
the fact that it works is a plus though.
