Impress HNN9029AR Jedi battery question

Post by N4KVE »

Hello. I recently acquired a quantity of IS Jedi HNN 9029AR Impress batteries from a local utility company. They re-up every 2 years whether the batteries are bad or not. Most are dated 805, & look new. Since they are for a Jedi, there is no gas gage display. I do have an Impress charger 3.4, & a Motorola conditioning [pulse] charger. I use the pulse charger for most of my batteries, but I've never had Impress batteries before. Would there be any advantage to using the Impress charger on the Impress batteries? Thanks. GARY N4KVE

The IMPRESS series of batteries and charges are ment to be used as a complete system, IMPRESS charger with IMPRESS battery, now you can charge NON IMPRESS batteries in an IMPRESS charger no problem, and charging an IMPRESS battery with a NON IMPRESS charger will work, you loose alot of the benifits of the IMPRESS system.

Let me explain what the benifits of IMPRESS batteries and charges are; when an IMPRESS battery is first charged in an IMPRESS charger the battery will be calibrated, (charged and discharged a 3 times if memory served correctly) to estabish a base line,(voltage and mAh), that data is stored in the battery. then each time the battery is placed back into an IMPRESS charger it takes that data and then decides best how to charge the battery. it may discharge then charge, rapid charge, cool off, trickle charge etc... all of that to get peak preformance and life from the battery

In my personal opioin, get the IMPRESS charger.

OK, so I've been playing with these for a few days. All of the batteries were sitting for months, but were between 6-7 volts before charging. I put them in the Impress charger & the light started at orange, then went to red [charging] then flashing yellow [top up] then solid yellow [charged]. However, 2 impress batteries actually were sitting for months & ran the MTS 2000 for 10 hours without charging are acting weird. Insert in the charger & it alternates between orange [discharge] & red [charge] about an hour each. Am I supposed to just leave the battery in the charger until the yellow shows whenever that is? Yesterday, I removed the battery when it changed from red to orange, & it ran the radio for 19 hours [1500 ma battery] Will the charger eventually straighten out the battery? This charger was from a group of 4114 chargers Batdude sold in July 06, & he said all were upgraded to V3.4. Or, I could just charge these in my Motorola [Advancetec] conditioning charger which has done me well since '98. Any advice? GARY N4KVE

UPDATE. Well after 7 hours of an hour orange, & an hour red, the charger is now showing a yellow to indicate the battery is fully charged, so I guess I just have to leave the battery in for as long as the charger wants. GARY N4KVE

Just so you know.......

flashing red - battery unchargeable
flashing yellow - waiting to charge (too hot/cold)
steady red - rapid charging
flashing green - charged (90% capacity)
steady green - fully charged
flashing red/green - low battery service life
steady yellow - reconditioning

Just FYI, those chargers were all bumped to 3.4 FW

Lance: What?
Kilgore: Napalm, son. Nothing in the world smells like that.

The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...

Thanks. I am colorblind to greens, & browns, so I might confuse some of those colors, but I get the picture. I never did get an owner's booklet. GARY N4KVE

Flip the unit over, there should be a sticker on the bottom with that exact info..........
