Part Number Needed: Front O5 Housing Assembly for APX

Post by unleashedff248 »

Hey guys,

I need someone to work their magic and get me a part number for the front housing assembly on a O5 APX 7500 control head. I've found the XTL 5000 part number as 1564047H02 in the detailed service manual. Unfortunately, moto doesn't have the APX 7500 even listed in the resource center, let alone have any documents. And a catalog browse reveals no exploded views or parts lists. I also found 1564047H06 listed as HOUSING, FRONT ASSEMBLY, O5. I cant figure out what the difference would be, besides H02 being the XTL O5 and H06 being the APX O5. This part would seemingly go on PHCN4000A, the APX7500 control head ($655!!!).

Also, if all else fails, would the XTL O5 assembly be compatible with the APX O5 one? They look exactly the same minus the coloring...

On a side note:
I'm also looking for the emergency button for a XTL5000 O5 head. Comes up as part #3864502H04 in the DSM. However, MOL shows this being a "new product and not yet orderable." Also, the description lists "BUTTON AND FRAME ASSEMBLY, POWER." Not sure what the deal is here. There's nothing new about it. And its definitely not a power button, despite what 75% of the users on the system may think (the first week it went operational there were hundreds of emergency button presses). Maybe even Motorola's confused?
Anyway, mine's all faded and whatnot, which seems to happen to about 90% of the heads I've seen installed in vehicles. They can make a dual band radio but not UV stabilized emergency buttons...

Thanks in advance!

Just because you don't have it listed in your MOL, don't assume it doesn't exist.

H02 is the original "XTL5000"/gray front housing, and H06 is the current "O5"/black front housing. They should be completely interchangable, as are the entire heads themselves, assuming the head is upgraded to CH firmware R08 or higher. Unless you have some compelling reason to replace the front housing, I wouldn't worry about it.

As for the emergency button, the part number you give looks like the actual electronics, not the orange rubber cover. I don't find a discrete part for that, it may come with the front housing - giving parts ID a call would be your next step.

Yeah I've gone through the missing stuff on MOL issue before. Just thought it was odd as I have every other radio series listed. Thanks for the help though. I'm replacing the housing as the front got smashed by a fire boot. The electronics are fine though. Beats a 655 dollar head though.
