xts5000 Flashport Upgrade
Can the Flashport upgrade be done with the regular serial programming cable, or is a special cable needed? I know you need the button and software from M, but if you have that, can you use the regular ribless cable?
Thanks.

Flashport upgrade in NJ
Is there anyone on here that can order and install a Flashport upgrade from central/northern nj? I am looking to add H14/G114 to a conventional xts5000. I tried calling all the local dealers and they don't do it or the person I need to speak to is not in.
Thanks for any help!

If it is an OEM serial cable it will work OK but I'd be real surprised if the aftermarkets were capable of bootstrapping the radio

I would second that, don't even attempt it without an oem cable. An the serial one works fine, just takes longer than usb.escomm wrote:If it is an OEM serial cable it will work OK but I'd be real surprised if the aftermarkets were capable of bootstrapping the radio

There is no voltage bootstrap difference with the Astro25 as there was with the legacy Astro products like the Digital Saber and XTS3000. With those a 13+ voltage was required to initiate the bootstrap mode.
If it reads and writes it should work.

Re: xts5000 Flashport Upgrade
The street price of the OEM RS232 cables has come way down, I have seen them on here and other places for well under $100.00. the ones posted here were $57.00 IIRC For that price why would you want to risk using an after market Astro25 cable. Especially for flashing,

Did you know you can put your XTS5000 model 3 radio in bootstrap mode?
With the radio turned off:
Push and hold down: Orange button, The bottom 2 dot button, and the PTT Button all at the same time and turn radio on, Radio is in bootstrap mode.
Have at it and see if the radio can be upgraded without a Button? I think this is also a back door to the radio incase anything happens in the upgrade process. You still can get back in to the radio.

Problem with this is you upgrade the firmware, but not the codeplug so you gain no new features by doing so just the bug fixes and tunings of the firmware itself. Also, you never can tell how a radio is going to react with different codeplug and firmware versions. I have not personally seen any issues, but would never use this method on a mission critical radio...MRFLASHPORT wrote:Did you know you can put your XTS5000 model 3 radio in bootstrap mode?

And that still doesn't get him the ID DISPLAY that he is looking for.

Even though the firmware upgrade doesn't get you additional features, isn't it a good idea to upgrade to the newest firmware, as long as it's not something like the troublesome 11.0?
