XTL 2500 Data Option

Post by colby4601 »

The Province is currently bringing EMS and Fire (me) onto the provincewide P25 system. Anyways, on one of the procurement sheets provided by Moto there is an add on that says: RS232 & IV&D PACKET DATA INTERFACE. What is it, what does it do and is it an option installed via hardware, firmware of flashcode?

W947 Packet Data Interface allows SMS style communications with other devices with the same option. W947 also allows provides the option of encrypting (UCM must be installed) your data communications.

I am pretty sure you will also need the W14 Enhanced Display option for everything to function.

These same options exist in portables as Q947 and H14.

These options can be added to a radio via purchasing them from Motorola and installing them as a Flashport Upgrade. It's easier and cheaper to have them installed at the factory as part of the original order.

So, considering this is a multi-zone P25 system where the other agency on it right now require an "RTT" button to get the attention of their dispatcher, could this option be used for a somewhat similar purpose? Sending a "Request to Talk" to the dispatch console?

Rather than make a costly mistake, why can't the system administrator guide you as to the correct specs of your new radios? If he/she were to give you a flashcode you'd probably be safe to order according to those specs. This assumes that the sys admin knows how this all works.

We haven't been provided with a flashcode per say, but we have been provided with the options that will be installed in the flashcode. The reason I'm asking all these questions is because the government entity that handles this for us is half the province away and getting a hold of them is difficult at best. The original users of the system, our hydro and federal policing, have nothing to do with Motorola as they use strictly Harris and M/A-Com equipment.
