XTS5000 Jumping Talkgroups

Post by SO_RSU12 »

We have a fleet of XTS5000 Portables on a 700/800MHz P25 Digital SmartZone system. I have about 10 radios that jumping talkgroups and our local shop or Motorola say they cannot find the problem. A better explaination is the radio channel knob is on 1 and the user talks. After releasing and depressing the PTT button again the radio may jump to channel 5, but the knob has not been moved from the 1 position and the display shows the proper label for the 1 position. We have a couple of XTS2500 doing the same thing but I am more worried about fixing the 5K's first. I tend to think it is a firmware issue because we have firmware 5, 8 and 12s that do not jump talkgroups. I need to know if anyone has experienced this issue before. We are programming with CPS version 14.

Radio is as follows:
XTS5000R Model II
Model H18UCF9PW6AN
DSP: 10.00.00
Firmware ver: 10.00.00

SMARTZONE System Operation
Astro digital operation
SMARTZONE OMNILINK Multizone Operation
ASTRO 25 9600 Baurd Trunking Systems Operation
Enhanced Digital ID Display
ADP
Channel Announcement (not yet used)

You're only talking about a handful of radios? I would do two things. 1st, update their firmware. 2nd, check for duplicate IDs on the system. Hold the suspect radios in your hand while watching your monitor of choice (genwatch etc) and make sure the ID you hold is not showing up somewhere other than what you have selected.

I really appreciate the responses to this post. I am positive the scan is not on. I wiped the scan list to read unassigned in every line using CPS and I did check for duplicate IDs before sending it off to Motorola. I will get with my rep and see about a firmware upgrade but if there are any other ideas, I am willing to give them a try.

R10 and R11 both had some serious issues and weren't around very long. Tell Moto to send you some firmware refreshes...

This sounds similar to a problem which I had some time ago.

I know that I just posted a similar reply about a week ago pertaining to a 400 MHz P25 Army system and XTS5000's running Firmware versions R10 and R11 which were both buggy firmware and frequently lost affiliation.

Our solution at the time was to go to Firmware R12 and now were in the R14's and no problem, so you need to upgrade your radios.

I was aware of the buggie version 11 but not version 10. I will get that upgrade from Motorola and thank you all for your assistance.
