Alignment of modern radio

A friend who owns our local ham repeater showed me how he aligns the front end of the GE Mstr2. A nylon device is inserted into the coils & adjusted while the radio is connected to the signal generator. Then he shows me how to align a Jedi using the RSS software making adjustments with "virtual pots" while again similarly using the signal generator for the clearest tone. So how is this done on a XTS 5000, or 2500. Does the tech use a laptop with tuner software, & just hit enter & the software does the rest automatically, or is a signal generator used similar to the Jedi? Just curious. GARY N4KVE

In part it depends upon the equipment the tech has. If he is using a General Dynamics 2670, GD has software that runs on a computer that will read the data from the 2670 and tweak the radio. If he is using an Aeroflex 3900, he can get an option that lets the 3900 do the tuning directly, no other computer required.

Otherwise, yes, the tech is probably using a computer + whatever sig-gen he has + whatever measuring gear he has + manual twiddling.
