JT1000/Jedi Troubleshooting

Post by elesjuan »

I picked up a JT1000 with no display/keypad functionality. Figured it would be something pretty simple like the electronics in the case front or a cable.

Only have one other Jedi series radio which is an MTX9000. Removed the front of the MTX9000 and placed it on the JT1000. Powered the radio up and still get NO response with the keypad and nothing on the display. Take the JT1000 front and place it on the MTX9000 to receive no display or response with the keypad.

Verified radio transmits and receives on all frequencies programmed and audio both ways is also good. Unable to read it with RSS, though admitedly since I don't have any other Jedi series radios and MTX9000 uses a different RSS I can't verify the rib, cable, or sw are any good.

What am I missing here? Pulled the covers off the radios and reseated the sub board connection along with the cable for the top controls which made no difference. Is the radio basically good for what few parts it has?

What radios do you own?: XTS2500, XTS5000, and MTS2000

check the interconnect flex, also the front cover flex connector on the controller board is prone to come loose, reflow with a hot air workstation usually fixes it. Clean all connectors. Not being able to read/write is an indicator of a fault in the connector going to the front cover.

Are you certain the radio is actually a JT 1000? What is the controller board part number?

HA! How about that.

I lack all needed tools for "proper" surface mount rework but thats never stopped me before! Went through and reworked with my tiny tipped pencil iron the front panel connector and sure enough it worked! My JT1000 display/keypad are still dead but the MTX cover and electronics work perfectly. Able to FPP the radio now.

Anyone have a spare display/full keypad case they'd let go of? :)

I've got one, it's missing some pixels though.
