Important Notes:

Abstract: 4Meg memory radios will stay at R09.xx.xxSystem Platforms Affected: System independentSpecial Configurations: N/ADescription: As of this release, when radios are FLASHed, they will be upgraded toversion R15.00.07 Host, R15.00.00 DSP, and R05.07.10 UCM (if applicable). This istrue EXCEPT for all ASTRO Spectra Plus with old version 4Meg Vocon board, andXTS2500, XTS1500, MT1500 and PR1500 radios with model numbers ending in ‘AN’. Allof these are 4MB memory radios which can not accommodate the size of R10 and beyondHost firmware releases. These radios will get a Host version of R09.00.24.
ASTRO Spectra Plus with new Vocon board will be upgraded to R09.20.24 Host,
R15.00.00 DSP and R05.07.10 UCM. This will occur automatically; personnel FLASHingradios will not need to be aware of which ones are 4MB radios. As time goes on, the4MB release will continue to be upgraded with applicable defect repairs, but no newfeatures will be added.

Issue Updates:

Abstract: Mobile FLASHport upgrades for radios with O5, M5 and O3 Control Headsfail
System Platforms Affected: AnySpecial Configurations: None
User Symptom: Mobile FLASHport upgrades for radios with O5, M5 and O3 control headswill fail. The error code displayed will be 05/93, and the control head is nonfunctional
and cannot be recovered through normal CPS procedures. This failure
will occur ONLY when the radio is being FLASHed from version R14.xx.xx with ControlHead version R08.10.01 to R15.00.00 with Control Head version R11.00.00. FLASHportupgrades from earlier versions of firmware will work normally.
Description: This firmware versioning issue has been fixed. There is no functional
difference between this firmware/control head version and the R15.00.00/R11.00.00combination. Only versioning had to be changed to prevent the FLASHport issue.
Radios shipped from the factory with R15.00.00/R11.00.00 will operate normally andupgrade normally in the future, so there is no reason to upgrade such radios tothis version in the field.

This is from the Word doc "steps to upgrade your radio"

3. FLASH the Radio
Flashing your radio upgrades the host, DSP, and UCM firmware (when secure equipped). For this release, the radios will be upgraded to version R15.00.07 for the host, R15.00.00 for the DSP, and R05.07.10 for the UCM (if applicable) EXCEPT for SSE 5000 radios, ASTRO Spectra Plus radios and XTS 2500, XTS 1500, MT 1500 and PR 1500 radios which model numbers end with ‘AN’. These radios will be upgraded to version R09.00.20 for the host, R14.00.00 for the DSP, and R05.07.10 for the UCM (if applicable). ASTRO Spectra Plus radios which model numbers end with ‘BN’ will be upgraded to version R09.20.24 for the host, R15.00.00 for the DSP, and R05.07.10 for the UCM .Please note going forward, any R09.xx.yy version will only contain defect fixes, no new radio functionality will be added in these releases.

It shows the AN portables as getting R09.00.20 and DSP 14.00. The DSP 15 must have been an issue with the 4 meg units. I heard of a few problems when the R15.00.00 update was performed on 4 meg units. The host was still 09.00.20 and the DSP was 15.00.00.

It was pointed out to me a few weeks ago that the Excel file release notes are not 100% accurate. It would still seem so if it's showing 09.00.24 for the AN units, and the Word doc with the F/W shows 09.00.20.

So the question is what will /\/\ do for those of us that have the FAIL 05-93 control heads because of this?

They have a FSB posted - FSB10479. I'd call them up and reference the Bulletin and ask them what to do. They will probably ask the radio be sent in with the misbehaving control head and they will send it back with a new head.

https://businessonline.motorola.com/DOC ... B10479.pdf
SUBJECT: XTL2500, XTL5000 and PM1500 Mobile radios may experience a 05/93 error after updating to R15.00.00 host firmware.

MODEL / SYSTEM AFFECTED:
XTL2500, XTL5000 and PM1500 units that were shipped with or upgraded to Host version R15.00.00 or Control head version R08.10.01

SYMPTOM:
When FLASH upgrading to Host version R15.00.00 (Control Head version R11.00.00) from Host version R14.xx.xx (Control Head version R08.10.01), the unit may display Error 05/93 after flashing completes.

NOTE: When upgrading from Host version R12.00.18 or earlier (Control Head version R08.00.00 and earlier) the problem will not be experienced UNLESS the units have a mixed and matched control heads and a transceiver with version R12.x.xx or earlier host code in the transceiver and a control head with version R08.10.01 attached.

FYI just tried to flash this release into a pair of XTS5000-2 800 radios and both radios bombed trying to upgrade the host. The upgrade goes along then reports "failed to upgrade a componet" then reboots to "invalid firmware"

i had to revert back to FW 15.00.00 and let CPS do a recovery. It took several attempts to flash the radios to flash back to the older firmware. If yours bombs, just keep trying to force the old fw back in and it should take it eventually.

This was a completely legit FW upgrade on a very stable platform, with a valid flashkey/CPS, downloaded upgrade package from MOL and completely legit radios.. looks like moto has some issues left to work out with this.

I did 3 XTS5000's last night with no problems (luckily) used a refresh button and CPS15.xx. I did see a 4 meg XTS2500 that got bricked when the 15.xx upgrade was attempted. It showed invalid firmware and it was not able to be recovered by numerous attempts. To be safe I'm going to hold off on any more upgrades and stay at 14.03 for now.

In the end I decided to upgrade from 12 to 14 on the 2 mobiles and that was it. It all went smoothly with no issues.

Today I upgraded two XTL5000 with O5 control head to this latest release, with no issues at all. Hardly definitive with only two units, but just wanted to say it worked for me.

I think i figured out the issue, some wisenheimer uninstalled CPS15 and put 14.0 back on... once i put 15 back on (and flogged the tech) both radios took the uplift.

Update 1-21-11

Updated FSB10479 Now Rev A
DO NO USE REV 15.00.00 ON ANY XTL OR PM1500 RADIOS
Motorola will provide 15.00.07 as a free update (must supply case number on form)

Called support yesterday at 1-800-927-2744 and created a case. They called me today and provided their FEDEX number for me to send my failed O3 head to Schaumberg. They will fix and return on their nickle.
