Keyloader questions

Post by N7QQU-Ken »

Good Day All-

I have just scored a T3020BX with good battery, 12VDC adapter, 120VAC charger and cable for the Saber series.
I have done some research but need to get a manual. I have looked all over the internet and found nothing yet.

Inside are 1 set of DIP switches that I am curious about. DIP switches and jumpers always make the geek in me curious.

Is there a way to upgrade a T3020BX to do more than just DES? There is a plug in module marked TRN4836A that looks like an EEPROM of something like that. It looks like it was designed for easy upgrading. Any ideas?

Is there a list of interface cables? I have a Saber cable (marked 8506A I think). Will that work with the Saber, Systems Saber and Astro Saber radios? I reialize that there needs to be a matching DES module in the radio.

Any operators manuals or serivce manuals in PDF would be a great help.

Thanks - Ken
My "shrink" says I am addicted to the following radios:
Saber, Saber R, Systems Saber, Astro Saber, Astro Saber R, XTS3000 R and all the accessories I can find.

First, be aware that your loader will only do DES - not DES-XL/OFB. You'd need a T3011 for that.

Upgrading the T30xx series is largely impractical - I believe the boards are different. At a minimum, you'd need a new encryption hybrid and firmware. TRN4386 is the hybrid.

The Saber cable works across all the radios, but you'll need a DX revision to keyload Astro radios - and, again, DES only (no XL/OFB).

Thanks for the information.

Does anyone have a manual in PDF?

How do I mod the cable to work with AS radios?

Thanks and happy holidays!

No mod to the cable required to work with Astro Saber vs. analog Saber. You just have to have a new enough DX-revision unit, or one that has been upgraded to DX.

Guys-

Thanks for the ideas and the help.

Any ideas on the DIP switch inside???? Just want to know what it does. I am sure it unlocks some great features we all would love to have:)

Happy New Year!
