HT1000 Programming

Post by RobK »

I'm not familiar with programming Motorola radios but I have a "DN" VHF HT1000 that a friend programmed for me. When the radio receives on a frequency, it seems to automatically start transmitting. I tested on a HAM frequency and as soon as it received, it started to transmit.

The same friend programmed a UHF HT1000 and it works fine.

I'm hoping this is a programming issue and not something with the radio. I don't think it is the PTT switch because it only starts to transmit when it receives. I do not have a speaker MIC hooked up and the previous owner states the radio worked fine for them.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm hoping this is a programming issue that I can pass on to my friend to check.

Thank you in advance,
Rob

I wonder if you have the orange button on top programmed for 'emergency', and somehow pressed that button?

Properly programmed, an HT1000 will not transmit on power up.
Your case may also not be fitted properly, and the PTT popple is being depressed without any pressure on the PTT button.
Check this easily, by taking the case off and placing the battery on and powering it up.
If no transmit, that's your trouble area...check for interference with the PTT popple and the PTT lever.
Many times, the PTT popple will shift, as it is retained by tape.
If centered properly, check the fit of the cover(shield) as it aligns to the board/chassis.
It should fit tightly, and all the retaining clips should be snapped into place.

Ernest,

Thank you for the reply. I will double check the PTT switch but the radio does not transmit until it receives. I power on the radio and hold it in my hand without pressing anything. As soon as it receives, then it begins to transmit for about 1 sec. I am curious about the emergency button though. It only seems to "key up" and transmit every 2-3 seconds. It isn't a constant transmit.

I was only testing this on a repeater frequency. When I switch over to a simplex frequency, it does not transmit automatically.

Does this additional information help at all?

Thank you again,
Rob

I would check the orange button It may be pressed even if doesnt look like it. Open up the radio and make sure the button is seated right .Its just a silicone button over a small foil contact. If not disable emergency in the RSS.

I've been told the emergency button was disabled in the RSS. I do have a copy of the codeplug if anyone thinks looking at it will help.

Thanks,

Am i understanding this correct? You have to run the RSS program for the HT1000 on a strictly DOS drvie or one partitioned as such? Is there any other way to do it? I am using an HP Pavilion a1203w with Windows XP.
