listen to MPT1327 trunking

Post by bhubert1978 »

Hello outta there,

since I am having little troubles with programming my gp680 I am just wondering if there is any way to listen to MPT1327 trunked transmissions?! I know there are software solutions with Uniden Bearcat scanners like the 785 but is there any way to listen to trunked radio like the gp680? Or what hardware would I need to get this goal accomplished?

thanks in advance, best regards, bhubert

Yes and no. Depending on the system, it may require forced affiliation (called auto-login, depending on the system type). There is a UHF system near me that a Fire Department used to use. I have tried in vain to get an MPT radio working on the system, but have never been able to. I cloned the programming from an identical radio (which is a system radio from the FD). The only thing I changed was the TX frequencies, so the radio couldn't actually talk to the system. It never was able to receive anything.

Never tried with a 680 however. The word on the street from all the searching I found was no. This FD recently went to VHF P25, so that project was kinda dead in the water for me.

hi motoFAN,

do you work with TrunkView? The thing I don't understand is when I would like to listen to the radio transmissions...I have to have two scanners, right? One which shows the organisation or control channel and the other one which is able to switch between the voice channels, right?

Also, is there a possibility to read out the messages which are send over the mpt trunked system...like scene information and so on, and also there are status which tell the dispatch center if the unit is in service, on scene or whatever...

May you please help me? thanks in advance, best regards

You can run with one scanner with CAT, like is Uniden. Check TrunkView's manal and similar group at Yahoo for more information.

TrunkView will work with one scanner; I've used it with a BC780XLT before. Cool thing about MPT trunking is no need for a discriminator tap, speaker audio works fine. The software will tune the scanner off the control channel onto the traffic channel and unmute the audio when there's traffic. Once the channel drops, it re-mutes the audio and tunes the scanner back to the control channel. It's a very well-implemented piece of software.

Don't know about reading the status messages, never really played with it much. I might have to fire it up this weekend and play with it again, get re-acquainted.
