#2 - I'm pretty sure existing system keys work fine, but ASTRO25 system id's and keys match up a little differently. Those of you out there that understand what I mean will understand what I mean (understand?).

This is not true.r0f wrote:;
1. When the 9600bps F/C option is installed (Q361/G361) you cannot toggle SmartZone on/off while in an ASTRO25 profile. It is hardcoded to "SmartZone". You cannot disable the coverage type. This means there is no way to use the 9600bps (safely) as a passive monitor, to listen to your favorite 9600bps system - without affiliating to their tower. (bye bye radio, hello bubba)
By using the scan feature you can STILL monitor a smartzone system WITHOUT affiliating.
I posted how to do when I tripped over it by fluke about 2 years ago, Elroy tried it out and gave it the thumbs up as the only way 100% not to log on to the system.
I'm happy to post again if anyone wants to know.

- What radios do you own?: APX4K, XTL5K, NX5200, NX700HK
Config the radio for auto-scan and make the both positions of the concentric switch (or whatever you prefer) for TX inhibit and you're done. Unfortunately, if you want to manually stick on a channel you have a problem but that's the only drawback (as compared to multiple drawbacks affiliating everywhere)!r0f wrote:Hey Mike,
I completely forgot about that! Have you confirmed it'll work OK on a 9600bps system? (I don't see why it wouldn't)
This is promising...

I use it on a smartzone omnilink system, in both digital and analog and it works fine. Don't bother with the tx inhibit stuff unless you use the radio as RX only.
I use the 16 position switch for channel and the the trunking channels start from 17+ only the "dummy" channels are from 1 to 16 with a channel that is not used in my area slaved for astro only with a network id of 001.
Works fine
PM if you want to know more.

Hey Shaun,r0f wrote:You can't do this on a SmartZone system, Josh. The radio will keep scanning for a new control channel, if it can't affiliate to one that matches it's system ID. (It thinks it's out of range)
However, I believe it'll work as long as the scan-list is not reachable via the physical channel switch. They'd have to be 17+, accessible via the CHAN SOFT menu. Execpt you don't enable the CHAN SOFT button in the radio wide config.. You would set up your scan list from radio-wide/scan (f5)

(I recall discussing this before)
You can successfuly use an XTS to passively monitor a SmartZone system by setting the concentric switch for TX Inhibit (Both positions don't have to be inhibit). It's what I do and it works fine. The radio pauses on power down but eventually does. When I need to transmit, I click it over, then when I switch to a system I don't want to TX on, I switch the switch back (beforehand). No worries.
My wonder is how easy it is to program in APCO-25 trunking without knowing all the pertinent codeplug details.

One is UHF and the other is 800. Both are *AN series.
800:
FW: 4.01.02
DSP: 6.03.01
UHF:
7.00.01
7.03.06
Are you trying to monitor the OmniLink system up around you all? Could be something coming off the control channel that requires/demands affiliation. I've never tried to monitor any OmniLink systems.
