So let me start out, I am not a radio guy, but I do have intrest to learn, but heres my question.
I work for a 911 response private, non for profit Hospital based EMS agency that responds to Calls in 3 differnt counties. Our largest amount of calls and the county we have the most ambulances in is our home county that just in the past few years went to a Project 25 Phase I, 800 mhz, Trunked Radio System that is "exclusive" to Motorola. My agency uses Moto XTS 2500's model 1.5 for portables and Motorola XTL 1500 800 mHz mobile radios for the units. What I am inquiring about is:
Is there ANY way for our 2 units based 10 miles outside of the county line to the south, and our unit based 20 miles west of the county line to use there 800mhz radios to communicate with our dispatch center. Currently the portable loose "range" of the signal about half way to there bases. Yet the mobiles are about to get a good clear signal in all our response areas. Is there a truck repeater we can look at for 800? Currntly those outling bases are tied in using UHF radios that bounce off a repeater on top of there bases and then bounced to the dispatch center in our home county, can we do something that could use that current infastructure or am I am way off?
The county has been in talks for over 3 years with Illinois to merge the countys 800 system with starcom21. Is there a way we can do that as a company or am i way off base there as well.
I thank you for your time, and any assistance you have. Thanks

You would need to talk to the radio System Administrator for the 800 system.

StarCom21 is a private system owned by Motorola, unless things have changed. I would contact Motorola about using the StarCom21 system for your dispatch, then you could still have the county's system in your radios for interoperability.
