Wilson Sleek

Post by Jim1348 »

First of all, I apologize in advance because this might be deemed slightly off topic, bit it is RF related. Anyway, I have a GSM phone and occasionally travel in areas of weak signal strength. I ran across an ad for the Wilson Sleek. I can't seem to find out as much detail as I want on the other things that I have found about this. Anyway, does anybody here use one of these? If so, are they worhwhile?

I'm a little wary of anything that doesn't have a true antenna connection on the back of it, to directly tie in to the unit's antenna out. I know Wilson was the fad about 5 to 7 years ago, with the BDAs that were required to make Nextel work in almost any large building...but this sounds a little "as seen on TV"ish for me.

It looks like a couple of the Best Buys near me carry these. Maybe I will try one sometime and then simply return it if it is a gimmick.

Funny thing, when I typed Wilson Sleek into Google, the top link was: "Sleek Cell Phone Booster - As Seen On TV. | WilsonSleek.com"

Some people swear by them, but honestly they probably work just as well as any other BDA- which don't need to actually connect to the phone's antenna

You know, I thought the same thing until we tried them. They work much better than even the direct connect BDA has been. The mounting is on the weak side (flimsy) but they've been good enough that we put them in many of our cars.
