Antenna Connection Type?

I have a CDM1550 on the way, was wondering the type of antenna connection is on the back? I know it is the screw in type, but what is the name of it (PL259?). Thanks for the help, I searched and couldnt really find anything


The antenna I have has a PL-259 (UHF male) connector on the end of it, is that going to work?

I'm in the midst of installing one of these in my truck.

There are three options, you can usually find a uhf-mini uhf adapter. I think radio shack sells them last time I looked. They work, but it's a less than ideal solution. Gets to be a pretty big mess hanging off the back of the radio. http://cgi.ebay.com/Mini-UHF-male-plug- ... 255feba181

There are pre-made adapter cables available, in fact, I think even Motorola sells them. Motorola p/n HKN9557A, $10.20 from Motorola Online, if you have an account. Also available on e-bay:

Of course the better solution is going to be removing the PL-259 and installing the correct connector. If you don't have the connector, or the correct crimp tool, you can probably get a local shop to do it for you for a few bucks. It'll be a much better solution in the long run.

I'd really discourage the radio-shack type adapter, they are a weak solution at best, and over time you risk damaging the adapter or antenna jack unless you do some really good strain relief.

In my personal rig, I use the adapters; like previously mentioned, they work fine with proper strain relief and make sure the connector is down tight too.

I second the down tight part. I had one on a temporary repeater I threw together, and the connecter was slightly loose and it burned the final up on the TX.
