Op and input wanted on GTR-8000 series

Post by Radiogeek97 »

Folks

Our department is going thru a complete system rebuild in anticipation of the forthcoming narowband mandate. That being said we were trying to secure a P.O for a 100 watt quantar based system and now it seems that we will have to switch over to a GTR-8000 based solution as we have not enough time to go thru the internal approval process to get a P.O by sept 30th.
That being said what we were looking at before was a Mixed mode P25 and UHF analog system with one main repeater and one standby repeater/reciver and an additional three reciver sites for our Main channel. The system was as i said mixed mode with a diu talking to the new Mcc5500 to allow us p25 audio at the console. The quantar based solution was to have a voter/comparitor display at the mcc5500 and main/standby switching there as well. I am just Not familliar enough with this new series to understand any pitfalls and shortcomings as well as any wiz-bang Positives. Can anybody that has experience with this equipment chime in with anyting tips suggestions and opinions. thanks very much on my own i am looking thru literature BUT that is put out by Moto and I want an honest evaluation

take care all!!!!!

Ohh one thing I was told was that in order to run mixed mode you will have to have 2 comparitors one analog and one p25, also the analog comparitor for the gtr series is not even available until early /late spring NEXT YEAR!!! Has anybody else gotten this info as well? Obviously we could go all digital but that would require replacing over 80 portables and mobiles :(
