Can 2 Versions Of The Same CPS Co-Exist?

Post by svfd1243 »

Here is my dilema....

I installed warris cps R06.10.02 on a laptop running xp pro sp3 today. It read my radios just fine but when I went to write to my cdm1250 i got an eprom error. I then installed R06.04.00 and loaded a blank codeplug and it fixed the eprom issue.

Today was the first time I installed and tried the R06.10.02 but I also noticed that I got a windows message stating that some files had been replaced by some unknown files (which im guessing are the common help files from the install?) and it asked for the SP3 disk which I dont have. This happened a couple mins after I rebooted to finalize the install. So is it possible that my writting issues were from bad/corrupt help files from the R06.10.02 install? If that is the case then Im wondering next if the good help files from the older version have overwritten the unknown or bad files from the newer version allowing me to at least write the blank codeplug and correcting my eprom issue.

So now that I am able to write again, would I be able to reinstall the newer version and it use the known to be good help files or would it just replace them again with the help files embedded in the install?

Also can you have 2 different versions of the same CPS on a machine at the same time? Im hoping to fix the issue I have with the R06.10.02 so that I can have them both on the same machine to use as a backup.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I've had that EXACT problem with 6.10. I had read a radio that was previously written with 6.07 but when I wrote back, it gave me an EEPROM CS ERROR (Checksum error). All I did was re-read the radio and repair the codeplug which loaded a default codeplug into the radio. It now reads/writes with 6.10 without issue. Of course, that's a PITA if you've already got a loaded up codeplug.

Once the 6.10 gave the eprom error it was basically useless. Everytime I tried to read/write cps kept giving me more error type messages. Thats when I decided to install the 6.04 (old faithful) crossed my fingers and prayed

Yes you can have both, when you install the new cps it don't remove the old one, it just creates a new shortcut to the new cps. Just open windows explorer and find the older version and create a new shortcut to the old one and you can even open both programs at the same time.
