Question About Motorola HT1000/MT2000
Hey Guys,
I'm kinda new to the 2 Way radio world so i don't know much about how it works, But here is my question.
1. I have a Motorola HT1000 with a VHF Antenna (136-174 MHz) And i wanna buy a Motorola MT2000 with a UHF Antenna (800Mhz), If i switch my Motorola HT 1000 VHF Antenna to a UHF Antenna Would it able to communicate?
2. How far is a Motorola HT1000 with a UHF around 800MHz? I live in Southwest Houston,TX, and the area i live in is pretty cover with trees, and building.
Thanks

You're gonna need to change a whole lot more than just the antenna if you want to change bands.

No, you cannot simply switch antennas. They are internally different, and cannot communicate with each other. And switching antennas will kill your radios. It would be like trying to listen to an FM radio station on an AM radio. Not gonna happen.
Re: Question About Motorola HT1000/MT2000
So that mean i have to buy another HT1000?,
Do you guys know how to make a motorola ht1000 to be able to commmunicate around 1miles or more?. Since the Motorola HT1000 has been used by police, and police radio or mostly more then 1 miles.
And which antenna is better for talking far ranges? VHF or UHF?
(My little brother will be inside the house, and i will be 1 miles away.)

Portable to portable (simplex) one mile away through buildings, and trees would be challenging. It always amazes how far portable radios won't work.

Well Bill, you couldn't be more wrong! Everybody knows FRS radios can talk over 30 Miles!Bill_G wrote:Portable to portable (simplex) one mile away through buildings, and trees would be challenging. It always amazes how far portable radios won't work.

I have seen ads for wifi antennas with the same claim.
Re: Question About Motorola HT1000/MT2000
Yes, you will have to buy another VHF radio (assuming thats what you have now) The reason "police" radios can talk futher than a mile is because of the system they're on, usually repeater systems with multiple antenna sites- its much more than just two "walkie talkies". You will most likely not be able to talk for a mile unless youre in "line of sight" no matter which band you are on (vhf or uhf)Vortex wrote:So that mean i have to buy another HT1000?,
