Hi,
I have a question with regards linking the GTR8000 IP enabled base stations to tie together a complete radio sub network effectively providing complete coverage for end users. This is over a large geographic area compromising of 30 base sites that need to be interconnected via spurs and a trunk microwave network.
Do any network managers or operations staff have any input into their preference for connecting together sites (via IP / Ethernet framing). Do Motorola have an off the shelf solution they reccomend? I am also curious as to the detailed requirement for linking a single channel of P25 Phase 2 (4 x 6.25Khz chan's @ 4800bps) of being 400Kbps of data per base site link or backhaul. The overheads seem excessive when the origional analog voice is vocoded to about 4.8K plus encoded signalling. What makes up the remaining 380K (4 x 4.8K = 19.2K)?. Ethernet framing and adressing / taging blocks?.
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: GTR8000 linking
Complete coverage? I assume that you are looking to go simulcast? I don't know that the data rate of the rf signal directly relates to the required or actual data rate of the IP side of the house. For example, I believe the Tait equipment has it's own network protocol, which I would assume compresses the network data. I could see that if they didn't that IP traffic on a full network would overwhelm the capacity of the system.

Re: GTR8000 linking
Thanks for the response FMROB, , I have been told I require 400Kbps overhead for each carrier (2 x voice chan's) coming out of the GTR's Ethernet port to link to other base stations via an over the air interface (radio link) running into an Ethernet switch. This will provide coverage across a wide geographic area for a users on each sub network BETWEEN base stations. Talk groups are then assigned etc... I heard spread spectrum microwave (unliscensed) is an option ie Wi-Max ... but I would to know the pros and cons of P25 base station linking via another radio system, and what the readers preferences are.. I am looking at running 2 x carriers (4 x voice) 2 base stations, from each site and linking them all up..
