I think i really bricked one of my XTL5000s

Post by kt2728 »

I finally got my quantar up and running last week. so i went arround reprogramming my radios. on the radio in question i read the radio with a serial cable connected to the control head. i changed only 2 frequencies and tried to write it back to the radio. the cps dinged and i got a pop up box that said the radio failed to acknowledge. clicked ok and the radio powercycled and came up in fail 1-90 loop and mantaince mode remote device. I have tried everything in this thread http://batboard.batlabs.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=98023 to recover it. i even tried to upgrade the host/dsp. when i tried to do that it told me that i had a ucm and asked if i wanted to upgrade it. then it comes up and says radio failed to open.

can anybody offer any ideas?

Can you read the radio from the rear accy port? Generally you don't need a control head attached, unless the codeplug is checked for requiring a control head to boot up. That would be the first thing to look at.

Before you go very far and really do damage, try rebooting the computer. The XTL and the CPS seem to be very sensitive to what is going on with the radio to computer interface. Have run into this a number of times playing with the programming. Now I do a fresh reboot every time I change radios for any programming.

Jim,

I was thinking about that, i had caught a virus on that laptop and thought i had it cleaned good but i started having some other issues the next day after i bricked this radio. So i have formatted the hdd and i am now downloading the service pack updates now. i am going to try to revive this radio after a fresh install.

ill keep you posted.

thanks
