Radio ID numbering when used on a Type II Smartnet System?

Post by Andy Brinkley »

Currently working with a customer who is in the process of converting a Type II Smartnet system over to MotoTrbo, and they have received the first shipment of radios.

The tech flashed all the radios for analog Type II, when they go to program the radio ID it will only allow a 5 digit number, which worked ok on the system, however when trying to make a Private Call to one of the XPR radios from one of our exisiting MTX8250's the MTX8250's require a 6 ID digit number. The XPR's will Private Call each other, but we can't call an XPR from the MTX 8250s.

Hope this makes sense, is there anyway to assign the XPR radios a 6 digit ID, such as 700321? Or is there a way to force the MTX8250's to accept less than a 6 digit Private Call ID?

If you haven't noticed I am on the steep end of the learning curve on MotoTrbo / Trunking.

Typically, individual IDs are prefaced with "7" (and talkgroup IDs for older radios, like Maxtrac, with "8"). Have you tried 700000 + the ID in the TRBO radio? For example, if you program ID 12345 into the TRBO radio, try 712345 from the MTX.

You are correct that all the older radios have a 6 digit ID starting with "7". We tried late Friday to use a use a MTX8250 and call the XPR with "7" plus the 5 digit radio ID, the XPR would not respond to the Private Call. Used the 5 digit radio ID between XPR radios and they worked fine.

Make sure all the radios are programmed for the same type of private call - "PC-II" [sometimes known as basic private call] or "Enhanced Private Call".

A radio programmed for Private Call II cannot initiate a private call to a radio programmed for Enhanced Private Call although the reverse is possible.

You may need to look at the system activity on a management terminal such as Systemwatch or Genwatch to get a clear picture of the issue.
