MCS2000 Narrowbanding

Post by dham66 »

I'm getting ready to narrowband a customer, who has several mobiles and bases, including some MCS2000s. It was brought to my attention that there may be some additional things that may need to be changed/adjusted through CPS and the MCS2000 Tuner so they work properly.
The issue that was brought up was that the factory 12.5k setting was too close to the noise threshold, causing the radio to constantly unmute a burst of noise every few seconds, like it was receiving a weak signal. This was solved partially using the MCS Tuner program to adjust the squelch levels for each frequency. But when in scan mode, the radio also tended to stop on carrier channels with no activity. The solution was to added PL tones to all local CSQ channels. These issues were on all of the MCS2000s that an associate had narrowbanded, and antenna placement or a defective radio was ruled out as contributing factors.
Long story short, if anyone else has had issues narrobanding the MCS2000, I'm all ears as to issues or suggestions you may have. I've got about 2 weeks before I tackle this project
