Chevrolet Impala Installs

Post by Jim1348 »

I may be in the market for a Chevrolet Impala soon. If possible, I would like to buy one that has room under the dash for installation of a Yaesu FT-8800. I would prefer to stay away from the YSK-8900 separation kit. Anyway, the reason I post this is I am wondering if anybody here happens to know if it is even possible to buy a Chevrolet Impala with a clean under dash area for mounting radios. I suspect that the Chevrolet Impala Police package has room under dash, but that is not necessarily what I am looking for. On the other hand, if it were the only Impala available with room under the dash, then I Would consider it.

Yes, they do or at least did a couple of years back offer a civilian model that has a column mounted shifter and no console.

I have an 08 with a column shifter and a armrest/cupholder console that folds up to make an (uncomfortable) 3rd seat.
Check out Impala's for sale on eBay and you should be able to see plenty of pictures
Jotto makes a custom enclosure that fits under the dash if you want a more professional looking install

The center seat/cupholder can be unbolted and removed to make room for a full console if you want to go that route. I had an '07 9C3 and did it that way.

But for 1 or 2 small mobile radio install, this will work on the late models w/o any alterations:
