MotoTRBO Voice Announcement feature

Post by Forts »

Has anyone tried the new Voice Announcement feature in CPS 7/FW 1.08.20? I've upgraded 2 of my radios (XPR6550's) and when I go to Device/Manage Voice Announcement I get an error saying 'unable to find applicable device(s) for voice announcement'. Then help file isn't, well, overly helpful. Perhaps this feature only works on non-display model radios? Scratching my head here...

Actually... I'm not seeing any of the new features. 5Tone signalling, Intelligent Audio etc etc. Should these not appear (or be available) after reading the radio with the new firmware installed?

Thanks!

I upgraded my 6550 last night and I had the same error. So I look in the help file and on one of the pictures I notice the model number starting with H81 not H55, which is the beginning model number for the 6550 series.

I would say this option is geared toward the next generation of TRBO subscriber radios due out sometime this year. But maybe if a 6550 has an option board they might be able to write some firmware to store the announcement files on it. But, thinking the Motorola way why would they do that when you can buy a brand new series of radio.

I think it's going to be the XPR7550 or whatever that new style radio was on Ebay a while back.

I just looked under the sample codeplugs and there is a new mobile radio in there, called the XPR5350 and XPR5550. Both of them have channel announcement in them. I guess it's time to sell my spare VHF 4550 and look at getting one of these newer models.

I've had a few people tell me that it looks like this is indeed the case... these features are for the next series of radios. Boo :(

How much you want for your spare XPR4550-VHF? :)
