Cloning multiple XTS2500i - No system Key

Post by Tim »

Hi Folks,

I have 28 XTS2500s that I need to make some modifications to (narrowbanding a bunch of channels & non trunking stuff), and wondering what the best way to do it without a system key.

For the legal police - I have permission from our sys admin (who has the keys), but is 60 miles away to make the mods to the frequencies. So, please no 'get a key', 'get legal', or other BS.

The last time I tried to clone one of the radios using the 'normal' clone menu, I ended up making all of the trunking IDs the same. - had to be a MOT screwup... if I don't have a key, then I <shouldn't> be able to change the ID. - A different subject with a much earlier version of the CPS. I'm a bit gun-shy about doing any kind of clone to these radios!

I've got version 17.0 software - legally bought & owned by us.

So, is there a way I can change non trunking stuff and do any kind of clone to the other 27 radios? I really don't want to drag-n-drop, nor change one-for-one mods to all the radios if I don't have to.

Any constructive ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

TIm

You can't clone trunking radios without a system key when the only changes you made were to conventional stuff? That sucks

Hi Escomm,

Well, that's what happened the last time I did a clone.... it wrote 'my' trunking ID # to all of the radios I cloned. (shouldn't have happened IMHO), but just looking for someone that has successfully done it.

Guess I could always see about 'finding' a system key, but figured there might be a way to do it without.

Top level drag and drop? Usually the way I do it.

Hi des,

How 'top level'? Like the entire Zone Channel Assignment level? Don't think I ever tried that.
Conventional Personalities?

I'll grab a radio tomorrow & do some playing with drag-n-drop.

thanks,

Question...

Is the key actually a Advanced System Key? My understanding is that if the radio has been hit with an ASK, it will always have to be a ASK to modify anything. I have 2500's with 3 trunk systems and 2 conventional zones. I can modify anything conventional without loading any of the system keys (which are soft keys BTW).

Why don't you just ask the SA for the key? If you have the authority to be on the system and are capable of maintaining your own equipment it shouldn't be a big deal no matter what type of key is used (soft or ASK). If he is using the ASK he can lock the key so only your partions can be programmed, etc and then mail it to you. I do custom ASK's all the time and not a big deal to do.

It's mainly a logistical issue. We are about 60 miles from him, and trying to get the
key for a week or so is probably out of the question, as he takes care of many more
radios than we have. (multiple agencies).

Anyhow, I played with doing a major drag-n-drop from the top seemed to work ok,
so I'll probably use that. Just have to write down all of the stuff I changed in the
different fields!
