Quantar V.24 Card Switch Settings

Post by mutantblue »

Does anyone have descriptions of what the two sets of dip-switches (S101 and S102) do on the V.24 daughtercard? The card that I have has switch 1 of both switches in the "ON" position and switches 2,3 and 4 in the "OFF" position. It would be nice to know the function of these switches. I've only seen the 1-page decryption of the V.24 card, and it didn't have any detail on these switches.

Only switch sections 1 and 2 are used for options. Switch 1 on, 2 off is when your connecting the card to a V.24 channel bank SRU port (external clock used). This setting is to obtain an external clock signal, from the channel back to the V.24 daughter card. Switch 1 off, 2 on is used when your not connecting the card to a channel bank, but rather a direct to DIU or AstroTac 3000(use internal clock). When connecting the V.24 port to a Premisys (Zhone) channel bank, the V.24 cable is a straight cable - 1 to 1, 2 to 2 etc.
Dip switch S101 is for port 1, S102 is port 2 on the daughter card.

When connecting a V.24 to a DIU3000, you need a V.24 cross over cable (null cable) as follows:

Pin Pin
1 Rx clock -------------------------------3 Tx clock
2 CD in ----------------------------------8 RTS
3 Tx clock-------------------------------1 RX clock
4 GND------------------------------------4 GND
5 RxD------------------------------------6 TxD
6 TxD------------------------------------5 RxD
7 NoConn 7 No Conn
8 RTS-------------------------------------2 CD in

The other thing you'll want to make sure of is the setting (in both devices) that talks about the transmit clock - external if connecting to a channel bank, internal clock if doing a direct connect
of the V.24 port to the desired device without a channel bank involved. Also only port 1 of the V.24 daughter board is used when on the face of a quantar. Both ports are used on an Astro Tac 3000 wireline board.

Does anyone have either a schematic or at least a block diagram of the V.24 card?
