APX 7000 EXTERNAL CONNECTOR

Post by liflod »

I'm trying to wire an external mic, speaker and PTT to an APX-7000. I cannot get audio out or PTT to work. Are there certain pins that need ground or shorted to get the functions to work? According to a Motorola tech rep I spoke with, he claims the external accessories are "smart" and the radio knows what is connected to it. I am using a replacement cable from a speaker mic and trying to adapt it to a speaker, mic and contact closure for a PTT.

I'd try to find a TRBO 2-wire kit and pull some audio and PTT off that. I doubt there's any stuff in there. If there is, it'll be much simpler to interface with.

Thank you very much. I spoke to another expert who comfirmed the "smart" aspect of the Motorola accessories. If it doesn't see an ID chip, the pins on the radio don't do anything. Hopefully, the 2 wire adapter has the chip in the plug end and I can cut the speaker and mic of the end.
