I have searched the board, and looked through the CPS without any luck, so maybe I just don't know what it is I am looking for. I have a CM300 that I use for GMRS that I want to be able to force some channels to operate at low power, and not have the option to switch to high power. I can set the default power level to LOW, but the hi/lo power function still works. Can anyone give me a hint as to what I need to search for, or what the setting may be called to do this, if it can be done? I want to be able to configure the radio to operate on the GMRS interstitial channels with 5 watts max and still be able to switch between 5 watts and 25 watts on channels where higher power is legal. Inexperienced radio users will be using the radio, and I want to make it as fool-proof as i can. Any help would be great. Thanks.

ya, open the personality and on the right hand side under transmit select low power for that channel and don't make it an option to change it with a button then leave the other channels set to hi power. and make shure you are expert mode

That defeats the ability to switch between high and low power on other channels. From what I can tell, there simply is no way to force a channel to operate low power while still able to select high or low power on other channels.

oh no, you can't do it like that, your only option would be what I explained. can I ask why you have to have it like this? are you not the only one using the radio?

I wont be the only one using the radio, and the other people who will have access to it are not experienced radio operators, so I was looking for a way to prevent the radio from accidentally being switched to high power on a low power channel. As was previously stated, they all have their limitations, and although I was hoping that I was just overlooking something in the CPS, it appears that this radio only offers a radio-wide hi/lo power selection. Thanks for the replies.

Re: CM300 Disable high power for certain channels
First, do you have a 25 watt or 40 watt CM300? (Just making sure. If you have a 40 watter, you can't push the power down as low as you want anyway.)kf4lne wrote:As was previously stated, they all have their limitations, and although I was hoping that I was just overlooking something in the CPS, it appears that this radio only offers a radio-wide hi/lo power selection. Next best thing if you have a 25 watt radio:
- In the CPS -> General Settings set your desired high and low powers.
Do not assign a button to toggle High/Low power.
Programmable Menu - uncheck Power Level
In the Personalities that you want your inexperienced users to use low power only, set the Power low and include Low in the channel name some how.
If you (the experienced user) want high power on the same channel, create a separate personality for that, set the Power High, and label it as such in the Personality name. Or name it something else, and tell the others not to use it.
You have 32 channels in a CM300 - the 7 interstitials have to be 5 watts only - the other 8 you can have a low power personality and a high power personality for each and still have room for 9 more channels.
Re: CM300 Disable high power for certain channels
At Steve, Thanks for the detailed suggestion. I think my best bet, since the radio can't be programmed to disable high power, is to just educate the other users about the channels that are low power only, and explain how to use the radio. Again, thanks for the suggestions.
