d89 = Multi-coded Squelch (MCS) board did not respond to power-up enable

If you enable multi-coded squelch in the station's codeplug you must have a multi-coded squelch option board installed in the station - or you will get the d89 error.

The TLN2420 multi-coded squelch module sometimes shows up on ebay or can be purchased from Motorola parts for $896. You will also need an expansion tray to house the board.

My two bits worth:
I have at least one of these along with the expansion housing and 5V power supply as removed from an analog MSF, if you need one.

Yes, the error code is most likely due to lack of MCS Board.
You can use the MCS board from an Analog MSF (CLB) in a Digital MSF (CXB), but you need to upgrade the Firmware and Codeplug. In an Analog station the MCS board does both decoding and ecoding. The PL/DPL detect is then plcaced on the station MUXbus which is used as a squelch qualifier. However, the Digital station only uses the MCS board for Decoding, The User info (PL/DPL codes) is stored in the Station Control Module Codeplug and transfered to the MCS board at boot up. The MCS board then puts the User number that has been decoded on the Station MUXbus. The Station Cotrol Board then encodes the PL/DPL assciated with that user number. This scheme allows different User List to be used on each station mode. The down side is everytime you chnage channels the station control board has to "RE-PROGRAM" the MCS board, which make mode changes a little slow.

If you get an MCS board from an Analog Station to use in your Digital Station, I can provide the MCS Firmware and Codeplug.

My two bits worth;
I sent the board from an analog station.
The firm ware is the problem!

I have never had to deal with a digital station with MCS, so I don't have the manual, or experience.
The analog stations out here replaced tube type, and old Motrac Motorola owned community repeaters.

Most of my experience is with 800 trunking.
