CPS 5.03 on Win7 64-bit

Post by sjxts3000 »

I finally upgraded my Windows Vista (32-bit) PC to a newer one running Windows 7 64-bit. When I installed "Astro Saber & XTS 3000 CPS" (for programming my XTS 3000's), I get an error when I launch the CPS app. Error indicates "The system cannot find the specified file". The error message has a title of "Astro Saber & XTS 3000 CPS", so it seems to infer that AstroPort.exe cannot find a support file?

Any ideas how to get past this?

Thanks in advance for the help!

You need a com port to begin with...

Can you elaborate? I have COM ports. Do I need to isntall the programming cable driver first? (i.e. RS232 driver)?

What radios do you own?: XTS2500, XTS5000, and MTS2000

I don't think Astro Saber/XTS3K will run on a 64 bit version of Windows. It works fine on Win7 32 bit, but I had the same problem when installing it on an IBM Thinkpad with 64bit Win7 and it had a "real" (not USB dongle) 9 pin serial port.

Old software doesn't play nice with newer versions of Windows.

So what are my options for programming XTS 3000's on a Win7 64-bit machine?

Virtual Machine with WinXP?
Other options?

You can try loading the USB-to-RS232 drivers so the software sees a COM port, otherwise it can show that error. If it still won't play after that, then yes, WinXP mode should work for you.
