I currently have 2 remote rcv sites running over v.24 with rad modems and canopy links and having trouble with the canopy links staying up and repiar time on them is awful,

The customer is looking at phone line options for a t-1 circuit to the remote sites,

will i need anything else to run these over for the t-1 can i just use the rad modem to tie to the smart jack via a switch or will i need some other typew of equipment for transport of v.24 over a t-1

Just ASTRO Modems or Comsphere 3810's on each end. Don't even need a T-carrier circuit, just a leased line 4-wire RTNA type line.

Why not replace the crap canopy with something respectable, like a licensed Cambium PTP 800 shot? Stuff works, and KEEPS working.

If you insist on using T-1, you'll need a channel bank with subrate cards that can handle v.24 circuits to break the data down to a DS0 on each end of the T-1.

I'll assume you were using ethernet previously since you mentioned Canopy. Rather than order a T-1 circuit, if they don't want to buy REAL microwave, perhaps a Metro Ethernet circuit from the telco? Then you can use the existing RAD units.

Just a comment... If you do leased circuits, I'd stay away from 4 wire RT now because at least in my area telco support for analog is fast going away. I've had problems getting support for existing lines because hardly anyone left in the field knows the stuff. Way easier to get DSL or T-1, even metro-e.

That's unfortunate, Dave. Out here we can still get RTNA circuits built that are generally ready-to-go without any equalization or anything needed. Now what they cost, I don't know.

You can get backhaul microwave gear with V.24 sync cards built right into the radio see www.4rf.com that work in the Astro environment. Licensed, expensive, but good.

It's gone stupid in this area. I get good support from CenturyLink in 1 rural area on 1 RT left and 2 DSL based T-1's. AT&T won't even consider turning up new analog. In fact, 20 4 wire data circuits are migrating over to MPLS because AT&T says no support for analog after the end of the year. I'm way on the outside of this project though so no clue on costs. I think we actually pay less for the T-1 than the RT from what I've heard.

wea re using cambium ptp300's and they suck, when they work they work great but are constantly having them go down and half to ship them off to the UK for repair so we are jsut looking for another option to get the remote rx back to the main site,

i have looked at the 4rf stuff but it is way overpriced

I jsut want the simplest method to transport v.24 form one place to another, going to talk to the power comapny and see if we can possibly get on there fiber on some dark fiber and jsut use the radmux stuff we have with media converters

Yeah call the telco Easier said than done,

One tower in at&t area the other in windstream and neither one had a clue what i wanted when i asked for ethernet, all they new was they could get me a dsl circuit

You generally have to speak with the business office and "special circuits" department. The usual telco call center folks only know POTS and DSL.
