MSF5000 Programming

Post by S_Holmes »

Not sure if this is the right are for it and if its not I apologize.

Recently we have started playing with some 900 MSF5000's we had laying around two are CLX models and one is a CLB. Right now we currently have one of the CLX models on the air right now and it is performing extremely well. We haven't done too much tweaking with the RSS we pretty much threw a freq and PL in along with CW ID. We have noticed that it takes about a second for the repeater to go into repeat mode, we have also noticed this on the CLB model also. Is this a standard for this type of repeater to take a second to key up?

Also another question the first MSF we programmed once we plugged the station in the fans came on as soon as the station had power. The other CLX model and the CLB model the fans do not come on even if after it tx's. Is there a programming parameter in the RSS?

CLX??? What is that? I know of C85CLBXXXX and C85GFBXXXX which are 160 watt stations. GFB is the RSS programmable station.

If there is a delay, make sure your PTT priority is set to Repeater not wireline, local or data.

Fans run all the time. If they don't come on, either they are seized, fuse is blown or the components on the noise filter on the tray are shot. Fans no workee common problem on old MSF cause they did run all the time.

I meant CXB but I'll have to double check the model number of the two digital ones we have. IIRC I think the one we have in service the repeater priority is set to Local/Repeater/Wireline/Data now. But at one point we did have it set to Repeater/Local and that didn't make a difference.

Thanks for the reply Dave.

If there's an expansion tray on top of the control tray, that could have circuitry in it to delay the transmitter. Also there are some TX Delay settings in RSS that could have been changed from their rather short default values, mainly used on base stations that have an antenna relay. If the squelch is too tight that could cause a slight delay but not one second.

The entire fan tray unplugs via a two or three pin Molex connector along the left side of the frame rails. Easy to unplug. When you're working on the station they do blow a lot of air right onto you so techs often unplug them but forget to restore the connection when they leave. Been there, done that, especially at a cold unheated site. They're 12V fans running on about 14-15VDC from push-on terminals on one of the big caps in the power supply.
