Can the programmable buttons function in lieu of the zone change option on the front panel of the radio ? ( my keypad is inop )
And how are the buttons programmed?

The buttons are not separately programmable and (by default) will mimic the side buttons (1 & 2) and top emergency/orange button programming on the radio itself (as programmed in CPS).
