MTX8000 RSS R06.08.00

Post by spidertat2man »

I'm having difficulty communicating with the radio. I am using all original Moto RLN4008B RIB with external 12V power supply and internal 9V battery, RKN4035D Test Cable (2 different Test Cables of same kind have been tried), 3080369B72 RIB to 9 Pin Cable (2 different cables of same type have been tried), MTX8000 or MTX838 Radios (I've tried 4 different MTX8000's and 2 different MTX838's), I'm running MTSX RSS r06.08.00 Software, using a Pentium 4 Win98 2nd Edition booted in DOS. I can access software and proceed thru computer configuration, I've tried changing from COM1 or COM2, I've tried changing the baud rates of these ports (slowing the baud rate down), and I repeatedly get the error message:

Warning: Communication With Radio Failed
> "CANNOT ACQUIRE BUSY LINE ERROR" <
Retry Last Command Again.
F2 OK

The batteries I've used on the radios are fully charged, I've even connected the radio to a Vehicular 12V charger so that the MTX8000 or MTX838's have continuous battery source. I have also purchased the 68-81074C50-K RSS User's Guide and can not get past page 2-31 Setting a Communications Port. Can anyone offer any advice as to what I'm doing wrong? I have tried to run this RSS on a Pentium III WIN98 2nd edition and get the same results. I do have a couple Win95 machines available to me and a Win3.1 machine? I've also tried the Ribless cable and get same results. Getting very frustrated! Please help???

I suspect you're getting into "DOS" by hitting 'F8' during boot up and choosing MS-DOS mode? If so, try this:

For Windows 98SE computers, go into the 'C:\windows' directory & find the "MS-DOS mode for games with EMS & XMS support" icon. Copy this onto your desktop for easy access. Now, double-click it & your computer will re-boot into the proper DOS mode for radio programming. See if the error still occurs.

Your computer will remain in DOS, even with a hard boot. To get back to Windows, you need to type 'exit' at the DOS prompt.

You're sure your RIB-to-Computer cable is good? How about the RIB? Or are you able to read other types of radios, and just issues with the MTSX stuff?

Hey Wavetar, Thank you so much, you were right on the money. It appears everything is working as it should. Now I'm ready to start reading some more and getting familiar with the programming process. Thanks again!

Good to hear, chalk another one up for MS-DOS Games Mode. 8)
