APX knob

Post by Mfire39 »

Ok, so I put in a MOL order yesterday for some of the shorter fat channel knobs for the APX7000. The part number I had saved from a previous order last year 3675590B02 is now replaced with 3675590B03 according to MOL. They show up today, and I get a package of 5 of the skinny little stubby channel knobs instead of the short fat ones.

Does anyone know the correct part number for the short fatter channel knob that resembles the volume control knob? Or did they discontinue that style?

Thanks,

-Marc

I don't know if anyone knew this, but I just found out that Motorola is discontinuing the FDNY volume knob for the XTS series as well.

Can anyone here confirm this ? I just placed an order for one.

We were told almost a year ago that the FDNY knob was limited to stock on hand.

I too would like the larger channel knob. I was told by Moto engineering that the larger knob was bumped easily and changed the channel without the user knowing. Production units never had the larger knob only prototypes so they said.

Anyone know if the fatter XE channel knob can be used on a non-XE APX portable control top?

Consider it confirmed, the B02 part numbers have been reactivated and Motorola is once again shipping the fat knobs. Beware of unscrupulous parts account non-authorized dealers selling them on Ebay for $18 or more. They are $5/ea plus shipping and if you're paying more than that, you're being ripped off. PM me if interested.

Is anyone finding that the channels are changing unintentionally with the bigger knob?

Nope. On some of the older dev/beta models (which had the same fat-style channel selector knob), the tension to change the channel was low and yes, it would often get knocked into a different channel. But on the newer models where I've replaced the tiny/thin knob with the fat-style, the tension is tight still. It's to the point where you have a little more "leverage" (torque) to change it easier, but it doesn't get knocked into a different channel when you bump into something. The volume knob is more apt to get moved in that situation.

So the fat knob is the perfect medium, IMHO.

I am having an issue too. It allows you to add to the cart but you have to purchase at least 5. When I change the quantity to 5 I get another error saying to change it to less than or equal to 4.

However you get the fat channel knob for the APX, believe me, it's worth the trouble because it just plain beats the skinny OEM channel knob.

A bag of 5 isn't much more than $5, how's$5 each a good deal?

Considering that dealer cost on these knobs is almost $4, I am pretty sure even with the new math you guys have over there that a bag of 5 will come out to more than $5. Maybe you're looking at the B03 part number, which is the new style that not many people like. Even then, dealer cost there is over $15 on the bag of 5. Let's get that new math out again. Pretty sure it's still much higher than a dollar apiece in spite of the fact it's the exact opposite of the knob this whole thread is about.....
