MaxTrac Lab - DOS

I'm trying to get MaxTrac Lab (1991 dated .exe) to work (pure DOS) on a Win 98, 266Mhz machine. It opens OK, but it tells me that the serial port is not correct. No matter what I do, Serial port one or Serial port 2 (changed in the BIOS)- Maxtrac Lab will let me select a serial port,but "says it is invalid" - regardless of which port number I select.

I am confident there is nothing wrong with my set-up, as I can read/save and program my code plug with (regular) RSS ver 7.

Just trying to get this machine to work below 146MHz. I'm following repeater-builder guidance

The older RSS will NOT work on a Pentium or anything much faster than the old 286...

Remember the Radio Service Software was written back in the early 90's when we did not have any fast computers.

Win 98 even in DOS handles Serial Ports differently than the good old Dos 6.2 and the timing loops in the RSS are not compatible either.

As Will says, that version of RSS will likely not work as far as reading/writing a radio. However, it should still see the serial port regardless of processor speed...it just may not use it correctly.

You can try using the Win98 "MS-DOS Mode for Games with EMS and XMS Support" method, that I outlined to you in another post back in February...or is that what you're already doing?

Also, turn off any IR ports in the BIOS.

Am I missing something? Why don't you use the shift trick in Maxtrac RSS to take the radio out of band? Why do you need lab?
